Using old ipac with new machines
#357908 - 08/22/16 01:09 AM

I have an old ipac 2 (from 2002 or 2003) that works like a champ with my old XP machine. Wanted to play some current games, but being that my ipac only had PS2 connections I went to A-zon and got a quality PS2 to USB adaptor. Not registering key inputs in my Windows 7 or 10 machines. The adapter shows up in devices, but not the ipac itself. Am I allowed to post the link to the adapter I got? I tried running Winipac as administrator, but no change. Button presses light up my capslock, numlock and scrolllock leds on my ps/2 keyboard I have connected to it, all at once.

The IPAC doesn't work with off the shelf PS2 to USB adaptors. There's a special cable that you can get from Ultimarc that will work. It's $4 in the Ultimarc store. If you're not sure, email andy @ ultimarc.com and he'll hook you up with the correct cable.

What if it doesn't work with the more recent operating systems? Then the cable won't matter.

It will work. It doesn't need any special drivers or anything.

What is this?

The guy just needs to get the right cable from Ultimarc.

Tried on Win 10. Nothing. Keyboard LEDs would no longer light.

As I recall, you have to put it in your startup folder.

@krick: maybe he won't.

Dude. Have you ever owned an IPAC? You're just wasting his time. I've seen this dance before. People try a bunch of adapters which don't work and eventually give up and get the correct cable.

I have two MAME cabs with IPACs. I haven't had this issue with those because they're connected to PS/2 ports - but I did with the JPAC in my third MAME cab, and mrepeat fixed it. Takes minutes to figure out.

I don't think you read the original post. He doesn't have the right cable to attach his IPAC to a USB port, so he tried a PS/2-to-USB adapter.

How is installing mrepeat going to make an incompatible adapter magically work?

I was using a PS/2-to-USB adapter. Someone here or at BYOAC told me about and offered mrepeat. Probly in '08 or 9. Can't find anything on it before '14, and those are my posts here.....
