Never watched a single Sean Connery Bond film until after Moore retired from the role. Who was your James Bond? Anyone here old and crusty enough to answer "Sean Connery"? Still wet-behind-the-ears enough to say "Daniel Craig"?

I meant more in line with age- who was James Bond when you saw the movies for the first time (and enjoyed them). I suppose if you didn't like the Bond of your age (Daniel Craig for example) then you would have to pick a different one. Of course these days it's easier to see any Bond movie you want as a teen- had to go to the video store and rent the older Bond films or wait for a TV network to air them (edited of course...) when I was a kid.
However, any can answer as they see fit.

If it weren't for selfish Remington Steele producers there would have been no Timothy Dalton Bond- Brosnan would have picked up the role from Moore. I did enjoy him in the role as well.
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I don't mind Dalton as Bond, and I never really liked Roger Moore. Watching Roger Moore never felt like I was watching James Bond. Roger Moore is great in The Saint, though. I liked Brosnan in Golden Eye - that film worked really well - but I don't like him in the subsequent films.

Ironically, that movie isn't considered a "real" bond movie. Don't remember the specifics but it was made without either Fleming family or bond studio consent. It's actually a remake of a older bond film.

The whole situation with that is weird. Ian Flemming's 1961 novel Thunderball is based on an unfilmed James Bond screenplay called Longitude 78 West. The 1965 film Thunderball is based on the novel, and the 1983 film Never Say Never Again is also based on the novel. After the 1965 film was released, the authors of the original screenplay sued over rights to the characters/story.
Never Say Never Again wasn't produced by Eon like the other Bond films - it was done by an independent company that included one of the authors of the original Longitude 78 West screenplay. It opened just four months after the Eon-produced Octopussy.
Is it a Bond film? I'd say it is. I mean, the Daniel Craig ones are just like generic action films with a guy called James Bond in them, and no-one pretends they aren't Bond films.
Connery & Moore were the two best actors to play Bond imo and they rank equally for me. Brosnan was also good as Bond but I don't really like Craig. As for Dalton, he just had the bad luck of being Bond at the wrong time. The movies were just bad and no Bond actor could have saved them.

Yes, me too - great movie. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out (amazing I got in, I was very young). Also saw Enter the Dragon around the same time. Two amazing movies. So many great scenes. The graveyard scene in LALD was awesome. Roger is my favourite Bond.

It is a Bond movie, legit. The producers obtained rights to do the movie due to a mishap as Vas Crabb told. It's not a canonical Eon Productions Bond movie, as well as Casino Royale (the one with David Niven) is also a Bond movie, done with all legal stuff, but it's not a canonical Eon Productions Bond movie. With 'canonical', the only thing that matters is that the next movie is going to be the 26th instead of the 29th, or whatever numbers.

Nah I barely like any Bond movie besides the Craig ones. Roger Moore was genuinely wasted as an actor doing all those Bond movies where there was no Bond at all. RIP and everything, but I'm sad that Bond was the character everyone will remember him for.

Well, to be fair his roles in TV shows he is also known for were before my time. Heck, even his first couple Bond films were though I have since watched them. Awhile ago I decided to watch all the main Bond films in order, but I stopped somewhere in the mid-70s and haven't picked them up since. Of course I have seen most of the rest in theaters, but it will be nice to rewatch them as it has been awhile.

I was never too much into James Bond, but, I distinctly remember enjoying The Man With The Golden Gun when I was a kid. Plus, that's where I found out about Christopher Lee.
So if we're going for "my" James Bond, I guess it'd be him.

I actually remember him more for his role as a con man in The Quest. Yes, the JCVD movie. That's my favorite role of his (of the few I've seen in my lifetime.)

Definitely Sean Connery. I was born in '74 so I watched the older movies with Sean Connery on TV before I could go to the cinema in the 80s and watch A View To A Kill etc. I've never seen Moonraker. Roger Moore is hm dunno like the Benny Hill of James Bond I guess lol. James Bond was already corny but Roger Moore just made it cornier.
Apparently it's against popular opinion but to me Daniel Craig is the best James Bond since Sean Connery.

Interesting. I was born a few years before you and don't remember ever seeing the movies on TV. As I already mentioned Roger Moore was my first introduction to James Bond. As for Daniel Craig, his Bond portrayal is definitely different from Moore's, Connery's , and Brosnan's (I'll have to rewatch the Dalton films as I don't remember his Bond very well, nor Lazenby's for that matter). Perhaps Craig is closer to Fleming's Bond? I don't know myself as I've never read the books, but some think so anyway.
Roger Moore always seemed like an older man to me. I mean, well, if he was/is 89 when he died, then he had to be in his 50's, or maybe 40's (?) when he was in (his) Bond movies. Right?
Then again, maybe that was the point of James Bond. I think I'd rank him just above Timothy Dalton (whom I'd consider to be my least favorite Bond actor).
I haven't seen any Daniel Craig Bond movies yet. :/

Not arguing that they weren't on TV of course- I just don't remember watching them on TV. Probably didn't give a rip about Bond in my early years.

He was 3 years older than Connery oddly enough, so age-wise he was pretty much picking up where Connery left off in the role rather than rebooting it.
