my rompath line is too long (-> crash !)
#374447 - 03/07/18 11:32 PM

Hi everybody!

My rompath line is too long, because I have so many directories (648 characters).

As a consequence, Mame crashes systematically when I try to change the cartbridge of a console via the Media View tab.

(on the contrary, all runs fine when my rompath line has less than 600 characters)

Has someone any idea to solve this problem ?

Have a nice day guys

My rompath line is :

rompath F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\Arcade;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\Arcade\Bios;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\Arcade\Devices;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\Arcade-clones;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\Arcade-TTL;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\NeoGeo;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\NeoGeo\Bios;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\NeoGeo-clones;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Arcade;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Arcade-clones;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Naomi;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Naomi\Bios;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Naomi\Devices;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Medium\Naomi-clones;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Large\Arcade;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Large\Arcade\Bios;F:\Dropbox\Rom_XLarge\Arcade;F:\Dropbox\Rom_XLarge\TaitoX;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Bemani;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Bemani\Bios;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Bemani\Devices;F:\Dropbox\Rom_Bemani\clones;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\New;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\MESS\Bios;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\MESS\Devices;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\MESS_Computer\Bios;F:\Dropbox\MyFolders\Roms\MESS_Computer\Devices

(that's fine for running arcade games, but leads to crash only when trying to change the cartbridge of a console via the Media View tab)

I am using MameUI 0.195 (actually, the problem appeared first time with MameUI 0.188 - there was no problem until MameUI 0.187).

Crash occurs whith any of the 45 consoles I am emulating (nes, snes, n64, sms, genesis, saturn, pce, etc.) (there is not one console for which crash does not occur)

Crash occurs instantly with no warning nor error message when I click on the "..." button in the Media View tab (it crashes before having access to options such as 'Mount File...' or 'Unmount').

Please note that emulation works well if I specify the cartbridge by writing it myself in the .ini file of a console.

(thx for trying to help !)

Fixed in MameUI 0.196, thx !

by the way,
have you any clue about what happened in MameUI 0.188 (and newer versions),
when the 'SW File' tab content changed as showed in this images :

- MameUI 0.187 (list of games) (OK)

- MameUI 0.188 (list of what ?) (NOK in my opinion)

Is there something wrong with my parameters ? or is that normal ? (in my opinion MameUI 0.187 was better with regard to this)

Nice, thx !!

Just one remark : when I add, for example, my Atari 2600 games folder as 'Software File Base', then the problem is fixed for all consoles ..... except for Atari 2600 !!!

That seems weird to me, but anyway, it works (I just had to add a fake directory as 'Software File Base', and now the problem is fixed for all consoles)

A simpler solution that works for me : by creating an empty 'software' directory within the main Mame directory, the problem is fixed (without adding any other folder as a 'Software File Base').

Maybe that could be fixed in a future version ? (to include an empty 'software' folder in the MameUI package, or to be insensible to the missing of this directory ?)

Missed this, so we just need a \software folder in the dist?

Fixed in Mame 0.199 !

Thx !
