I ended up using this guide, using the in-built Win 7 imaging tools. It's a very well written guide, and I would recommend it to others making the swap to SSD.

Basically, it went like this:

1) Cleanup OS partition to help reduce size (in my case, I also needed to disable RST caching and switch from RAID 0 to AHCI disk drivers).

2) Shrink OS partition volume using Windows disk management.

3) Make a new disk image using Win backup/restore, saved to an extra internal HDD I use for backup (the use of a tertiary drive is important, as you can not re-image from a partition on the drive which has been cloned).

4) Make a bootable Windows repair disk in order to startup with OS restore options (made mine a bootable USB thumbdrive).

5) Install SSD in machine using the same SATA channel my previous HDD had been connected to.

6) Boot with repair disk, select system image, and voila.

Using the native Win7 tools worked nicely, as it correctly detected the SSD, installed TRIM, and configured the SSD properly (ie; defrag schedule already turned off automagically).

BTW, the 7.9 score I mentioned above is the new disk score, the combined system score is only 7.6. The lowest score is now cpu.
