I'm not going to go with all the tinfoil hat, "we never landed on the moon" conspiracy theorists on this one. In fact, I feel more confident now that we have those theories. I can FULLY see the political reasoning for dumping his body in the ocean.
1: What country would want to house his body and provide a shrine to evil incarnate? Burying him on land would only accomplish that.
2: By following a modicum of Islamic procedure with his disposal, the US does show the strictly Islamic world that even though Bin Laden was a heinous, horrific individual, the US still respects the Islamic religion and followed their religious processes when disposing of the body.
3: I don't think the US would open themselves up to the massive international, political nightmare of announcing he was dead (at 11:00 P.M. EST on a Sunday night) knowing that a US hating country could immediately post a live video of Bin Laden and show that the US is full of shit. Our leaders might be dumb, but they aren't THAT dumb.
