I'm curious why everyone disables the Windows firewall? The one thing a hardware firewall generally won't catch is illicit outbound traffic, i.e. your machine is compromised and some piece of malware is trying to phone home with your credit card number. I wouldn't go to the trouble of installing a 3rd party firewall, but the Windows firewall is good enough for this purpose. I can't say I've ever had a problem with it, or even had to configure or think about. At least, not since Windows 7 came out.
