> I think I saw Demon Seed on late-night television some time in the early 80s when I was in my early teens. I remember finding it very scary and somewhat upsetting, similar to the first time I saw Alien. I probably should go back and re-watch it as an adult. > Here's another film I watched on late-night TV as a kid that kind of freaked me out... https://www.google.com/#q=phase+iV
That is 70s sci-chadelic theatre. The basic storyline I was thinking of Empire of the Ants. The trailer is trip-out city, apparently trying to be smart in some places as well. Malzberg seems familiar, but I'm pretty sure I haven't read anything of his. (EotA was kinda scary in the early around '80-82, but watched it in the last year and pretty much laughed my ass off.)
Alien is basically a monster movie. I always found the adult backdrop...and certainly Bishop...more interesting.
Scifi frauds. SF illuminates.
