NEW LAYOUT : Mappy (Bally Midway 1983 arcade cabinet)

MAPPY layout for M.A.M.E (Namco 1983)

ô god, this one takes me a long time to make... Here is an astonishing new UHD layout.

I never played Mappy before because it was not attractive enough without any graphics additions around the playfield so I decided to give it a shot.
The first problem was to find useable side arts, it don't exist so I used to be very inventive again.
The screen was very empty and inserting a clean marquee was not enough.

I resized, cutted moved and rebuilded the instructions included in the bezel to place them aside. My idea was to place some fun game characters on each elements. Fortunately I finally found a japanese coloring book for childrens with Mappy arts in it in high resolution. So I began to build from scratch many many many many many cats, pixel by pixel and coloring them to obtain a coherent layout.

Cat after cat (Meowkie and Goro, in fact), mouse after mouse I finally successed to produce a very funny layout with many things to observe on the screen.

Then, after testing it, I finally discovered a really great game with interesting gameplay and I now love it. In conclusion I realized how much a game with "poor" graphics can be attractive when we add elements around to enter the game's universe. It's just philosophy, I know... but... it counts

Soooooooo, after this hard and long saturday working on it, here it is.

Installation instructions for newbies :
- Ensure you're using mame layout version 2. Verify it by editing another « default.lay » from the zip file of one of your working layout to be sure.
- Replace (or add) the « mappy.zip » file in your « /Mame/artwork/ » folder.
- Start M.A.M.E then launch the game
- Press the « Tab » key and go to « video » section
- Chose « NOIR Homeplaying FullHD » configuration and ensure « bezel » is enabled. (chose the "WR" version for displaying the world record)
- Exit the M.A.M.E configuration menu
- Enjoy !

Notes :
This Layout is designed for homeplaying on very large screens but should fit perfectly on modern TV, HD and UHD (4K).
You can chose between 2 Layouts, one with the world record and one without it. I tested the layouts on M.A.M.E 0.218.

Remember, This game is designed for a 2-Way joystick (left-rigt) but there is no gameplay differences when using 4-Way or 8-Way.

Mod it and convert it as you like ! I hope you'll enjoy it.
