NEW LAYOUT : Ghosts'n goblins (Taito 1985 arcade cabinet)

GHOSTS'N GOBLINS layout for M.A.M.E (Capcom 1985)

Here comes another astonishing layout and it finally takes times. Sometimes there is few or no stuff to use for drawing a layout and sometimes there is too much. I have a fun story about this one.

I remember the first time I saw the real cabinet of "Ghosts'n goblins", I was amazed by all the arts on the machine, I never saw a beautifuller one. Wow ! Funny graphics, wonderful side arts, what a cab ! More, the game was good, very good.

I needed to make a very nice layout like a challenge or a celebration of this great cabinet.
All arts are available in high quality, perfect... but the instruction card has a F#¤#@¤ sticker on the right corner, hiding the last power up we can find in the game. Damn it !

I searched a lot, a very lot to find another version of the same InstCard without success except for the japanese version (Makaimura). With a better resolution, greater texts and very better colors than the poor american version. More, we have 2 funny characters (goblin and devil) not present on the US version.
So... I decided to use the up half of the american version and the bottom half of the japanese version. I worked a lot of time to rebuild and adjust the parts, colorizing everything and redrawing entirely the famous 5th weapon : The cross. I translated the japanese text of the cross in english and rewrite all other texts (yep, I talk japanese too).

Wow, the result is great, wonderful. I arrange every elements and insert this Instcard in my Gimp work etc, but...

After playing the game I consulted the DAT file to read the story about the game in M.A.M.E and I discovered something I never expected : "This american version of the game has a shield to replace the cross of the japanese version".

What the F¤#@¤¤ !
Ok, I abdicate. This layout will be like this... by the way !
So, this layout is really great, one of my bests but you will be aware about the "cross" detail. If it disturbs you, play the Makaimura version

- Based on original upright Taito's arcade cabinet.
- On screen official marquee, bezel, control panel, flyer and not official instructions (but fine)
- Full game zone's proportions respect (8:7)
- World record from TwinGalaxies displayed
- original controllers required to play

Specs :
- M.A.M.E layout version 2 (tested on 0.218 version)
- Can be easily converted to newer layout version if needed
- Zip file size is 19.5 Megs.
- Include old existing "Ghosts'n goblins/Makaimura" previous layouts
- Every visual elements are joined in one bezel .png file.

Preview :

Installation instructions for newbies :
- Ensure you're using mame layout version 2. Verify it by editing another « default.lay » from the zip file of one of your working layout to be sure.
- Replace (or add) the « gng.zip » file in your « /Mame/artwork/ » folder.
- Start M.A.M.E then launch the game
- Press the « Tab » key and go to « video » section
- Chose « NOIR Homeplaying FullHD » configuration and ensure « bezel » is enabled for old Mame versions. (chose the "WR" version for displaying the world record)
- Exit the M.A.M.E configuration menu
- Enjoy !

Notes :
This Layout is designed for homeplaying on very large screens but should fit perfectly on modern TV, HD and UHD (4K).
You can chose between 2 Layouts, one with the world record and one without it.
I tested the layouts on M.A.M.E 0.218.

Mod it and convert it as you like ! I hope you'll enjoy it.
Let's kill some freaky creatures !
