Yeesh... While I wouldn't get it done every time the stealership wants to upsell you, you kinda do want to flush the tranny every so often. ATF should be bright red, when it starts getting brown and burnt smelling, you want to get it flushed. Sure, you can get lucky and have one just keep going even though you beat the hell out of it, but automatic transmissions generally last longer and run better with a little maintenance.
