Finally fixed up (sort of) my home network,
12/18/22 01:34 PM

Been bugging me for years. Internet is shared throughout the "Mansion" (condo/apartment) and comes into my house and into an unmanaged cheap hub. What bugged me is that everything hard-wired would be in it's own network and I have 2 wireless routers, so I could reach nothing in the main part of my house, from my office.

Finally put an old router to use by hooking it up to the hub, and unplugging the 3 bedrooms and living room LAN drops from the hub and plugging them into that router. Changed my 2 other routers to AP mode, with a static IP using that junk router's IP as the gateway. I actually have a home network now, with internet working. No longer need to carry my laptop around the house for silly things like webkit exploits... and now my TVs and consoles can connect to my NAS, while keeping my NAS in the office.

Other than being lazy, the house is also equipped with a video doorbell system (not to my front door, but behind a security door you have to get through with a key, or by pushing a button from inside the house to let that person in, just so they can reach my door), and I was afraid to break that, not being able to read the cable labels...

But so many possibilities just opened up...

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!
