Quote: You are looking in from the outside so you do not understand the hearts of Christian artists, or any Christ followers for that matter.
All I have to go by are anyones' actions. That and the brief time that Christians attempted to convert me back when I declared my own atheism (yes, using the a-word in front of my pastor in his office at the time) when I was seven years old. That's how I judge peoples' character.
The tragic thing: He didn't bother to ask why I made that declaration.
It's easy for anyone to launch an ad hominem attack stating I or anyone who doesn't share a particular dogma "doesn't understand". The problem is that I'm aware and understand all too well from being on the inside and finding my own way out. And given how young I was at the time that I made that decision I look back upon that with no guilt and zero regrets. It turned out that I made a courageous, wise, and ultimately moral choice.
It is unwise for a believer to cling onto a false assumption when trying to reconcile why people deliberately start thinking for themselves and losing, as in deliberately dropping like a bad habit, the need for belief in a particular dogma. If they were truly sincere they would ask one simple question:
"Why is that?"
And did I mention how the Beasties always found ways of bridging ideological gaps? Not for the sake of selling a new album but that was their ultimate skill that they took the time in perfecting. They understood and didn't condemn anyone but the obvious bigots and evils in society itself. They knew that people had their own personal reasons for belief in whatever dogma or none at all. That's why their positive messages crossed-over in so many directions. Their message was that of awareness of the world and universe around them and having a lot of fun putting that into lyrics and music.
They know and I know. Will you? My enemy is ignorance, not you. I combat that with awareness. The blindfold will never cover my own eyes again. I'm glad that I removed it many decades ago.
