arcade machine video display issue
#243969 - 01/19/11 08:41 PM

I have a dedicated Alien Syndrome cab. I wired the coin door improperly and now the graphics are garbled, but only certain portions of it. Some overlays display fine, but the character for example is all stretched out with lines going through him. I figure I must have zapped something, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to fix this issue.

Thanks

It'd be better for someone with more exprience but if it were me I'd:

*clear the backup ram
*try burning a new set of roms to see if the problem is still there
*try using a different game on the board.

2+3 for me would require an eprom burner which I don't have, but anyway...

Very unintelligent advice, except for maybe clearing the backup RAM, if an Alien Syndrome PCB even has that.

If the wiring work he did has broken his PCB, plugging in a different PCB would cause that to break as well, congratulations, two broken PCBs instead of one.
Likewise, if the bad wiring has caused the ROMs to blow up, a set of replacment ROMs would blow up as well.

Undo the wiring work or unplug the coin door. The coin door does not need to be wired up for the game to start, so remove the coin door from the equation.

I should have explained that after the initial coin door wiring problem, I was able to wire it properly with schematics I found for the PCB. But now, after it is wired correctly, it has this video issue. I was thinking I zapped a chip, and it needed to be redumped. But, honestly, it's a guess as I have little experience with arcade machine PCBs.

#Well I said it was better to listen to people with more exprience. I also said that's what I'd do, not what he should.
