That place looks like a shithole. It's not saying that's the last arcade in NY - just that it's the last that the author thinks is subjectively "great". Other arcades that have adapted to the times have outcompeted it. Free market at work, baby.

Just like a proper arcade should.

There should be a cloud of smoke. Burn marks on the buttons. And a layer of goo on the floor you do not want to know what it is. Also there should be ashtrays bolted onto the front of many of them.

Also the dude running it should be a shifty sort of fellow. Who tosses you a free couple of credits after he empties the cash box.

This part was pretty messed up though:
"As it turns out, that sign used to read “World Famous Dancing & Tic-Tac-Toe Playing Chicken.” Some photographs framed against the wooden wall of the arcade’s cage-like managerial booth hint at the strange days when, according to ScoutingNY ‘s report, a white-feathered chicken named Lily played tic-tac-toe and “danced” to the tune of controlled electric jolts from inside a coin-operated metal and glass cage. The “game” was shut down in the late 90’s when a concerned patron demanded the owner end the practice and hand over the bird, but the empty chicken cage and tic-tac-toe board still remain. The photos were a gift from the chicken’s new owner so that the arcade staff could reminisce over their old friend."
What would PETA have to say about THAT then?

Better yet, when will it be emulated in MAME?

People Eating Tasty Animals would say it tastes just like chicken.

LOL nice one 'Ultra Lurker'
The devs would probably say something about needing a 3D 'artwork' system and realistic physics!

Lets take pictures of ourselves naked next to the chicken and maybe people will stop eating meat?

Or won't be able to find the supermarket after they've clawed their own eyeballs out!

I always thought PETA stood for Penetrating Every Tight Ass. I guess I watch too much porn, if that's even possible.

Are you saying that any proper MAME/r.g.v.a. addict with a cabinet (or twelve) in his basement man-cave should also emulate these dubious "features"? Authenticity, sure, to a point, but geez!

Heh. I usually associate Pamela Anderson with my bedroom/bathroom and a wad of kleenex in my hands. But that's for other reasons.

Hmm haven't really thought about it. Wonder if the mame devs will ever add it in. Would they be slider bars inside of the GUI? Or a separate overlay file?

Don't forget the cocaine powder caught in the control panel overlays, the hash resin gunking up the joysticks, and the unwrapped condoms put over the joysticks as a joke by someone. Was the liquid in there what you thought it might be, or was it just icing from the Cinnabon next door?

MAME supports generating a "burn-in" overlay for any game, and has for a while (I remember Aaron demoing it at CAX '08).

Now THAT just made my jaw-dropping day.
After three years of ignorance...
