Indeed, accidentally search replaced .7 to .8 and got the 7zip extensions on the href. Try again.

John IV it's possible to create on Play/IV a file for MAME without using refresh on the real Emulator? I'm not asking about .xml but the file it will save on real MAME and will load without refreshing.

Still something not right with MameUI and HLSL...

When ever i start it up and run a game with HLSL enabled it seems ok, quit game and then try and start another game up, i get this..

click on the 'ok' button, i get back to the selection menu, try and start the exact same game that just failed and it will run fine.

Without HLSL enabled everythings fine....the other Front end i use (Emuloader) has no problems with HLSL enabled, so its something specific to MameUI...

MAMEUI shows many, many bugs which do not occur with command line MAME or other frontends, it's time to think about stopping using it.

Er, what? Just hit F5 in IV/Play to refresh the xml from the new MAME version if its in the same location or F4 to re-link to another MAME .exe.

What a bold claim... Looks like he has something wrong wiht his video cards drivers instead... HLSL with MAMEUI runs like a charm here. Have a nice day.

It's not a claim. The same error happened to me even using official MAME command line binary before all the HLSL fixes got submitted (running u5 and u6 before the u7 fixes) using nvidia GTX 480 and latest drivers at that time.

That error has nothing to do with driver issues or bad hardware. Whenever HLSL fowls up or something affects it, it generates that kind of error or one similar.

Even if you're right R. Belmont, i don't think those words are really nice with respect to the MAMEUI developer...

It's provable that MAMEUI is extremely buggy and makes MAME itself look bad to noobs. That's why MAMEdev officially gave it the heave-ho and it's why MAMETesters is about to slam the door.

I understand your point of view and arguments but to me this does not justify the harshness of your words with respect to MAMEUI ... Now if the UI builds and derivatives are so harmful to MAME, why not simply prohibit them when they're doing more harm than good with respect to MAME in command lines?

Actually I think I get what you're trying to say now.

While you 'can' use mameuiXX.exe you should link IV/Play to a baseline mame.exe and then use its ini files.

That way you don't need to go into MameUI and refresh anything or deal with the mameui*.ini files.

the main problem is that there have been no MAMEUI developers for at least 5 years (the only reason it hasn't been removed earlier was the work of MESSdevs, like Nathan & Micko), and you can see the results. the whole code would have needed a complete rewrite, and nobody was interested into it.

Robbbert (again a MESSdev, btw) is trying to keep it alive, and I wish to him good luck, but you can't expect official support. that's all.

And then?

So as I understand MAMEUI has no developer since 5 years, is buggy, need a complete rewrite and is not officially supported but you continue to tolerate it so that it makes a lot of harm.

What is the purpose?

what is the purpose of what? of tolerating it?

as long as UI-only bugs are not reported to MameTesters or wrongly indicated as core bugs, it does not make harm (contrarily to what you say), so what would be the purpose of not tolerating it?

I would hope that anyone who is going to report a bug at MAMETesters would verify the bug on an official MAME build before reporting it. I think that is why it is good to ask if anyone else is having the problem on MAME Chat.
