Crock-Man (Rene Pierre) from 1980
#268849 - 11/17/11 06:49 PM

thanks to the help of Nico, Thorsten K. and Team Europe we got CROCK-MAN from Rene Pierre.

Ofcourse it's another Puckman/Pac-Man hack...but we also got the original marquee and the manual (GERMAN, FRENCH and ENGLISH) for it and that makes it now completely digitaly preserved!

Another "undumped" (http://mamedev.emulab.it/undumped/index.php?title=Crock-Man) game rescued!

Wow, this is awesome.

Is this an official release, or just a bootleg hack?

Nice work Klaus et al.!

What I find interesting is that on the flyer [http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=2974&image=1] the control panel is labelled as "PUCK MAN". I was looking closely because I think I have one or two of these cabs somewhere in my basement, although in rather bad condition...

Did you actually look at the pictures he posted? It's Namco Puckman (the Japan set) with the Namco logo replaced

.. and in adding it, that is precisely what it is, a simple logo change. They get the "bootleg" moniker due to having all the extras (marquee, manuals, flyers) produced.

Just an observation...sorry i mean a complain as i can't differ these two words !

+GAME( 1980, crockman, puckman, pacman, pacman, 0, ROT90, "bootleg (Rene Peirre)", "Crock-Man", GAME_SUPPORTS_SAVE )

have to be :

+GAME( 1980, crockman, puckman, pacman, pacman, 0, ROT90, "bootleg (Rene Pierre)", "Crock-Man", GAME_SUPPORTS_SAVE )

EDIT: The correct spelling as it is a French first name is René Pierre , not Rene Pierre...

I did see the pictures. I know it's a modified version of Puckman; I was just wondering if it was legally produced or not. :P

Really? What else do you have down there?

Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.

Of course not.

"Crock Man"...just say it out loud a couple of times. Shout it from the rooftops.

It's not like certain words mean different things or even have no meaning at all in some countries. :P

Nothing MAME-worthy anymore if that is what you're interested in. I mostly have universal cabinets and a couple of (Italian) bootleg pcbs which flooded the market back then in Austria.

It's an obscure french version, "rené pierre" is well known here in France, and still exists, for their "babyfoot", plus there are crock man flyers, so for sure it has been commercialized...

Crock comes from "croquer", which means "to bite".
