Advice about PC Spec and what OS is best to use for my NAMCO Cab
#282824 - 04/16/12 07:08 PM

Hi

I have the following cab http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160771211817

I would mostly like it to play MAME. (Removed so as not to upset anybody.....sorry)

I bought a new ArcadeVGA and J-Pac card and would like to ask the following.(it did come with them but they are quite old 2003 I think)

1. What OS I should get? I read somewhere that Win 7 is not good with arcade monitors???

2. I am sorry to ask this as I know from doing searches its been asked a lot but what spec PC would I need to run most of the emulators? I am still not sure so just a little nudge in the right direction would be great please.

Anyway thanks anyone who answers..

Congrats on the cab, be sure to keep the J-Pac stuff in there, it will come in handy the deeper you dive into the hobby. As for the discs you bought, you probably should have done some research before buying or posting about it. Basically that guy is profiting off the work we all do for free and I'd like to see someone punch him in the face.

Not to hijack the thread, but if the 138 people that bought that ONE guys dvd set and donated it to DU or GURU that'd be $5400 more in preserved games.

I all seriousness though, this isn't a JAMMA cab which will present you with some unique challenges!

It's a JVS cab that will require a bespoke Namco Cyberlead JVS to JAMMA converter if the cab didn't come with it. The fact that it already came with the J-PAC and AVGA is a good sign though.

If that's a Cyberlead 2 (tri-sync monitor ) then I personally would just run MAME in 31kHz and forget about the AVGA.

FWIW I'm still good on mameuifx64.145 with my Intel E8500 with XP64 and 2GB RAM.

IMVHO you'll want something with a PS2 keyboard connection as USB adds yet more complications.

HTH

Cheers,

Ralph.
