MAMEUI Unstable Repository
#294344 - 08/23/12 08:14 PM

A few days ago I put online the page "MameUI Unstable repository" to collect and redistribute 32bit versions of MameUI.
Many versions are still missing and that is why I ask for your help: anyone available versions currently missing (such 0.144u2, 0.143u9, 0.143u5, 0.142u1 or 0.141u4) are kindly requested to contact me.

Why is it titled unstable? If you feel it is unstable, why bother archiving it?

I'm guessing the "u" in 141u1 means "unstable" to him.

I always read it as "update".

I thought originally it was "µ" for "micro-update" but became "u"...

I forget...

Educated guess:

That site could also possibly be helpful in quashing bugs since there would be a place you could get old MAMES from?

I agree that the name is incorrect but what he is doing is great.
This would have been useful to me a couple of weeks ago if I knew about it.
I have an old hdd with older builds on it I will send to you when I sort that out.
I think you should include the main updates as well.
Keep up the good work your a boss.

Was that the versions that had the huge memory leak?

You look at the old version and rejoice speed and auditing.
After 0.142 died MAMEUI

How does the speed compare to regular Windows MAME (command prompt version)?

MAME -verifyroms

EDIT: I just did an unscientific experiment. I typed MAME64 at the command prompt and started and audit. Within a few seconds I tarted an audit in MAMEUI64. The cammand prompt finshed first by a few seconds. MAMEUI continued on because it audited samples too. It was done auditing ROMS within a few seconds of the command line MAME. I think the reason this is slow is because there are so many ROMs now.

Maybe a netter idea would be to yank the audit feature out of MAMEUI and just generate a gamelist based on the ROMs that are in the ROMs folder. Use CLRMAMEPRO for auditing.

I've thought that for awhile too. Why would you really need to do a full audit with a UI anyway. You can't repair anything and instead of a full audit you can either do an individual set audit or easier yet, just hit enter & see what it says is missing or loads properly. Unless the full & indy audits are so intertwined that it wouldn't work. But then MAME wouldn't work at all. It still has to know & try to load the correct roms.

Later...

Pessimist: Oh, this can't get any worse!
Optimist: Yes, it can!

Added the missing versions (now the page is complete up to version 142u2).
Moreover, thanks to dirtybirdy were also added 38 older versions of the 2005.

More coming...
