help with lighting (Australian)

Hi Guys,

So I have my cab pretty much completed, Just wanting to find the best way to give some nice backlighting behind the glass.

I have left a gap at the bottom and the top of the Perspex (yes, it was easier and less breaky then glass) and My intention was to have some sort of blue ligthing from behind.

I bought a set of christmas rope lights, but they got too hot

I also tried some usb powered blue cord from ebay , but its pretty much just the cord that glows, I need bigger.

What would you guys suggest?

I've put a few pics to give you an idea.

I'd find the lights distracting imo. Anyway, if you have ofcuts of plexi or perspex, you can make a glowing strip and glue it in or something.

What I would do is get a peice of clear plastic and drill say 5mm holes at about 7-10cm. Glue some blue leds into them and wire up all the cathodes and the anodes to each other in parallel and attach a resistor to the anode line and hook up a 5v source. What's good is because of the way light works and the way the light travels through the plastic, it should give you a nice even glow.

I used Glow Wire on my original cab. It connects to to a 12 volt source on your pc, so comes on with the pc.

You can either go old-school and use a 120VAC fluorescent tube light something like this...

Or go new-school and use a 12VDC cold cathode PC lighting kit like this...
http://www.xoxide.com/dual-white-cold-cathode-kit.html

That's a white one, they also have other colors like blue.

Another option might be LED light strips, which I think are 12VDC, but I think you need to be careful that you get something with a good diffuser or you will end up with a series of light spots on the back of your marquee.
