YEA baby, thanks for doing this. I've longed for something like this ever since MAWS went offline. I hope you continue the good work.

Now there should be only the result page to be translated. I believe you can still navigate it without problems but I will surely do that too (sooner or later)

If there are other features you are misssng from MAWS (eg: gamelist.txt ?) ask for it, I'll do my best to add it

I seem to recall a remote exploit in MAWS that someone used. Have you implemented this?

I think he was probably referring to the exploit that got MAMEWorld pwned and MAWS taken down permanently.

http://www.progettoemma.net/gioco.php?&game=outr2&lang=en

In the grid under "Technical information" there are two untranslated headings : "Nome" and "Tipo"

When opening "CHIP" there's an untranslated string : "Chiudi informazioni romset".

The tab "Informations" doesn't seem to be translated, nor is "Giochi Simili" translated.

The rest is looking good.

Very nice.

Some bugs:
Advanced Search -
"Manufacturer" - "Sconosciuto" is a choice. Should be "Unknown"? Perhaps pulling from Italian Data by mistake?

"Title words :" - needs a better explanation...

"Year :"
"Up to Year:"
Perhaps "Year Range" or "Date Range", "From: ", "To: " or something
same with Version

"Work status :" - just change to "Status :" perhaps?

"Player nr. :" - perhaps make "Num. Players" or "Number of Players" or "# of Players" or something

"Screen:" - "Vectors", change to "Vector"

"Width" - "Vettori", change to "Vector"

"Height" - "Vettori", change to "Vector"

"CHD usage:" - "Don't uses CHD", change to "Doesn't use CHDs"

"Sample usage:" - "Don't uses samples", change to "Doesn't use samples"
"Sample usage" is missing title.

-------------

"ROM Search" is completely untranslated!
http://www.progettoemma.net/romsearch.php
Ricerca ROM:
Nome romset: Nome ROM: CRC32: SHA1: Stato:

Istruzioni

---------------

Search-related:

Game page: ex. pacman
http://www.progettoemma.net/index.php?gioco=pacman
Number of players: "2P alternati" - "2P alternating"?

"The ROMset is composed by 10 ROMs (4 of the parent set, 6 of the clone set)"
Correction: The ROMset is composed of 10 ROMs (4 from the parent set, 6 from the clone set)

"The dimensions of pacman.zip are 14.1 Kbytes (compressed)"
Correction: The size of pacman.zip is 14.1 Kbytes (compressed)

"The game PCB has 8 options that can be set by dipswitch"
Correction (maybe): The game's PCB(s) has 8 settings that can be set by dipswitch

Section "Informations" - change to "Information"

---------------

Minor things:
Sidebar:
"Contatti" - "Contact"
"Statistiche Sito" - "Site Statistics"
"Instructions ITA" - "Instructions (ITA)" perhaps
"Sorgente MAME" - "MAME Source"
"Ringraziamenti" - "Thanks" (I think)
"Link Utili" - "Useful Links"

Titlebar:
At top of page: "Selezione casuale" - "Random selection:"
and pull info from English dats

Logo: Emulatore Multiplo Macchine Arcade
Change to "Emulator Multiple Machine Arcade" when in English mode or something

Style Thing:
"Main menu", "Home page", "Fast search", "Search tools", "Standard search", "Advanced search", "ROM search", "Romset name", "Game genre", "CPU type", "Start search" - Capitalize the second word.
"Main Menu", "Home Page", "Fast Search", "Search Tools", "Standard Search", "Advanced Search", "ROM Search", "Romset Name", "Game Genre", "CPU Type", "Start Search"
But perhaps this is just a personal thing.

"Romset" - I'd probably recommend just changing it to "Set" website-wide, although I haven't looked through what problems that might cause.

---------

Note: before people get concerned, there are still MANY untranslated pages, and s_bastian knows about them. Ex.

Mm right, I didn’t think of that. Sites are anyway totally different, progettoemma was completely scripted by me from scratch, and while CBW gave me a lot of useful suggestions when I started, there is no line of code from MAWS in my site. So site should be safe from the "maws exploit". But since I cannot grant it is 100% safe from ALL exploits (I’m a employee, not a coder!!), I’ve added some security/validity scripts to keep things monitored in case of hacking attempt. Hope nobody will ever test how strong my scripting is!!

WOW there is a LOT of work still to do... and I thought I was at a good point!! Thanks for reporting, I will surely work this out (expecially for the poor/wrong translations...

Actually, my main concern was to make the site more accessible for non Italian users, not the complete translation of it. At least, for the database things. Some useful things can be translated anyway: the printer friendly version of the game page, the search instructions and the “mame for Dummies” guide (and yes, the rom search page). Things are proceeding slow because I need to tokenize every line in the site. On the pro side, if one day somebody will want to translate progettoemma in any other language, all they will have to do will be to ask me for the dictionary file and translate it.

Once site is accessible in a proper manner, my priority will be to make the image update script, leeching images directly from Progettosnaps, and rebuilding "server side" instead of having to download, rebuild, rename and re-upload the images. I’m at a good point with that, and as we are in the same web farm the file transfer is VERY fast compared to my poor ADSL, still I need to understand why some images don’t get rebuilt properly (my host will HATE me when I will launch that script, but who cares…. ;-) I had already tried synchronization softwares but they become very slow and prone to crash when trying to synchronize 19000+ subfolders. And this is the main reason why my images aren’t *that* up to date...

Then, we will see for the rest of the site…

There are actually already a pretty lot of nice tool, eg. the option to load your mameui favourites .ini file, add games on it, save it, or save any search result, as txt, mamewah.lst file, mameui.ini or even clrmamepro dat file (I know many people using this to get rid of pinballs and fruit machines)
Tools like this are fun to make, as they are usually pretty easy. I'll be glad to work on them (and I actually already have something nearly ready...

This one is made on purpose in this way, because result changes based on WHAT you set. You can set only one of them or both:

if you set ONLY "YEAR": result will show games released that exact year
if you set ONLY "UP TO YEAR": result will show games from the earliest record to set date
if you set BOTH, result will show the games released in that range

I have ProgettoEmma bookmarked. Is there a way I can have it go straight to English language instead of having to click the little flag every time? Because after clicking the little American flag, the web address does not change. Therefore I can't bookmark the 'English version' of the website.

And do you plan on including the "Hall of Fame" feature that MAWS had? It would be nice if people could vote/rate on the games in the database.

This is working from NOW (just added the feature)
Keep in mind anyway that if you click on the “en” flag once, your browser should retain the option via cookies. So, a direct link to "en" page should be necessary only if you flush cookies/delete browsing history every time.

The hall of fame option: There is a big issue in this feature, that is: tracking renames. I had thought of this when I created the site, I also implemented the "most seen games" feature, now disabled because I could not keep track of renames so the results could be distorted. I need to think a procedure on this, eg: votes will be assigned to PARENT ONLY, and I will apply the renames I check for catlists also to the vote tables, with a checking routine that "if game is no more parent, move votes to actual parent"

Now that the site will surely (I hope) get more users, I might also think about re-enabling the "submit an image" option. I should also take the time to get rid of the frames and work the DHTML version. And the mobile version too... Anyone has got a spare timeturner?

I delete my browsing history at the end of each online session for security, safety, and neatness reasons.

"Sconosciuto" is not the same thing as "unknown". The unknown manufacturer games are all blank in the manufacturer section. It appears to be impossible to search for "unknown company". I can't think of an easy way in English to tell what "sconosciuto" is; they are added part files used to emulate games, they do not exist as R-O-M-S on real boards.

Also, in either language, at the bottom of advanced search bar, "use CHD" and "use samples" are run together with no space between.
