Has the ability to write and save custom HLSL .ini files been lost..?
#317042 - 11/06/13 08:46 PM

I'm currently using 149 with the Emu Loader UI, and it let's me adjust all the HLSL settings via the in game sliders, upon exiting it writes the new, custom .ini file in the Mame HLSL folder.

Just tried 151 with Emu Loader and it wont write new .ini files or save them.

Is the only way to have HLSL set up for each game, now to do it manually via notepad?

If so...WTF happened, why would such an incredibly user friendly way of setting up each game be removed?

Maybe THIS thread that has an INI creator might be of some use to you.

If memory serves me correctly using the ini_read/ini_write caused a crash to occur for some people using MAME/MESS in some cases.

Honestly, you have no idea how utterly fucking pissed off I am right now about this.

It effectively kills my interest in Mame past 149...

The idea that you have to manually set HLSL up for each game is just so fucking ridiculous.

The only other option I have is to keep 2 active Mame folders, use 149 to write the HLSL configs, then transfer the .ini files to the newest Mame version, because i'll be dammed if I'm going to sit there with a pen & paper for each and every game.

AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you know that you can just do it once (per category of games, at least, since I guess settings for raster games and vector ones will be quite different) and then copy the gamename1.ini to gamename2.ini, gamename3.ini...

Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V and you have the new ini...

ou can do it per driver if you want. The problem you are complaining about isn't mame's issue anyway, as it never provided a way to edit ini's automatically. Just wait for an update to Emuloader to let it put hlsl settings in the main game ini instead of a hlsl specific one.

Because it fucking doesn't work, capisce?

If JD knew the fucking way to fucking fix it, it'd be fucking done by now.

But it fucking isn't, so you're just going to have to fucking deal with it until he fucking does in a future fucking update.

Until then, try to be fucking grateful that you have the fucking feature in the first fucking place.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

Well I guess having the feature and using it daily in 149 without any issue whatsoever has all just been in my fucking imagination.

You can still use the ones you've created but adjusting your main .ini (inipath) to point also to the hlsl folder (or wherever you kept them before).
As far as creating for new games, I can't imagine there will be so much difference in actual settings from game to game to now be able to use an existing one copied to a new setname or driver.

Nah...I've just deleted the 151 rom set and folder, it's more trouble than it's worth, I'll just stick to 149 with the working, 'does not fucking work', .ini write feature still there.

If I ever hear the working 'does not fucking work' feature has been 'fixed', I'll upgrade then, until then, life's too short to waste any more time on it.

probably it won't ever happen. slider options don't get saved, and neither is this...

if you are too lazy to copy the 0.149 ini's in the 0.151 folder and fix the unrecognized options, just be happy with your 0.149 release

It worked for you. It completely ruined the lives of a lot of other users who didn't understand it so it's gone away.

names and examples please, otherwise I'm calling this out as complete bullshit.

Just out of interest, out of the hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of users of Mame, just how many does it take to complain to get a feature removed?...10,20,30,100?

Taking this feature out was an utterly retarded decision..end of.

Dullaron, you completely misunderstand his problem. The option he wants to use was removed because people commonly misused it in ways that made MAME not run at all for them. A different front end doesn't help with that.

In order to remedy this for myself, can I just copy & Paste the relevant code from 149 Source code into the 151 Source code and compile it myself?

Is there any reason why that wouldn't work?

If so, can someone tell me which piece of source I need to insert..

Honestly Your better off working with 149 INIs and copying over those as suggested by others in this thread instead of trying to hack up the source to get the end result you want.

I don't have the time or inclination to go dig up old threads, but I'll validate that there were a lot of support problems with INI writing for HLSL. It ended up being broken a lot of the time.

You're going to have to live with it. It won't be coming back unless/until a better system is worked out, and it's not exactly a high priority.

Yelling, screaming, and using obscenities just makes JD *less* inclined to put time into something that's not making him any money and giving him stress on-par with his previous job.
