Screenshots with HLSL effects applied

How can I take MAME snapshots with HLSL effects applied to it? I'm using the F12 key to take the snaps but they come with the original resolution and no HLSL effects. I did some cool scanline effects that I want to publish at the HLSL tutorials topic.

Run MAME in a Window, not in fullscreen, and use ALT+PRINT to copy the active window to your clipboard. Then paste it to an Image Viewer (or to Paint for example) and save it.

If the key combo (either Alt+F12 or Ctrl+Alt+F12) that I implemented to take post-processed screenshots doesn't work, then that's a bug. I would appreciate you giving correct information, but I guess we can't all get what we want.

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

MooglyGuy,
I've tested the key combination and the one which works is ALT+F12. The other combination does nothing.
However, ALT+F12 captures the screen and splits it into 4 parts, so I had to join them back together with Photoshop, but anyway, it works.
Here's my HLSL settings applied to Saint Dragon:
Hope you guys like it, I'll submit my settings to the proper tutorial section at the other forum soon.

They don't work here, forgot to mention and report though. I don't get a complete snapshot when I use it. Peace.

You do, the snapshot is just in four pieces. If you crank up the HLSL snapshot size in the INI file, it can end up pretty large and I wasn't sure if a full-sized shot would blow up our PNG writer.

MooglyGuy is right, but only ALT+F12 works though. See my post below where I did 2 screenshots using my HLSL settings. The images are quite large but I didn't want to resize them since the resize would damage the scanlines and woudn't show how they really are displayed on screen.

Correct! I wasn't sure whether it was CTRL+ALT+F12 or just ALT+F12, which is why I mentioned it would be one or the other.

please do, I am planning on FINALLY getting a bit into HLSL, but I have no idea what 'proper' settings for arcade-monitor simulatoin are.

Don't worry about it, nobody has.

I'm not sure that's being entirely fair to MG - he's posted stuff like this to help with that very issue. Granted, those settings are no longer valid with newer releases but there's other threads out there that provide presets that work pretty nicely.
I'd agree that the "hlsl_preset" feature might be enhanced to provide a "reference implementation" of sorts for different types of monitors, so you could choose from a human-readable pick list of interesting settings as other emus are starting to do. I assumed he or someone else had something like this in their plans eventually, but as with anything it's all a matter of finding time.

That would be lovely!

Is there any way of taking a rendered screenshot with "hlsl" disabled and for instance:
video d3d effect X.png filter 1
I've only managed to get rendered screenshots working with "hlsl" enabled.

That's because it's only intended for use with HLSL. Normal rendering doesn't use a render target, man.

So, there's no way of taking an "in-game" screenshot with effects applied (hlsl disabled)?

Standard snapshot function is to show 100% of the original display (before any -effect .png is applied). AFAIK, there is currently no way internally to do this with MAME. You could, however, run the emulation in a window with -effect, capture that window with ALT+PRINT SCRN and paste into Paint then save that screen.
