Missing Files new
#323053 - 03/09/14 05:46 AM

I have several games that won't work. They work just fine in MAMEUI64, but not regular MAME. It keeps telling me that I am missing one or several CHD or ROM files. I don't know why it would work in MAMEUI64 but not MAME. They're the same files. I don't want to have to go all over the place trying rom after rom just to find one that will work.

It doesn't work. It keeps saying Can't Examine The exefile. I don't know what it means.

Read this guide. http://www.mameworld.info/easyemu/clrmameguide/clrmame-guide.html After rebuilding your set you still might be missing files which you will have to do a Google search to find the missing roms.

I've read the instructions. I don't understand them. It wants me to load a dat file. I found one from a few years ago, but I don't see any way to load it. At least, not the way the guide you posted says. It says to press the Add Dat button. There isn't any button like that.

I don't know what I'm doing. I tried reading the instructions, but they didn't make any sense. I rebuilt something, but the games still do not work.

You don't need a "dat" file. Using this guide, go to "Using The Profiler" and jump to "Setting up an "EXE" file".

According to the instructions, I DO need a DAT file. This is all just too complicated.

Maybe just stick with mameuifx if regular MAME is to hard to figure out. The roms should work in either one you use as long as they are the same number .152

They don't work in both. That's the problem. I want to use regular MAME because I can make it look like an old screen. But I have a handful of games that will work on MAMEUI64 but not on regular MAME.

If you're talking about HLSL it is available in MAMEUI also. You have to have a set of roms that match what version mame you are using. If using MAME152 then you need MAME152 roms for it.

I got the new version MAMEUI, and found the hlsl. But now, there are several games that won't work in it. They keep asking for something called qsound.bin. I got qsound.bin and put it in the rom folder, but the games still won't run. They will on the previous version of MAMEUI that I have. But I want the HLSL effects that the newer version has.

You need to find the newest qsound rom. Google is your friend.

It also needs to be in qsound.zip doesn't it? Just putting qsound.bin in the ROMs folder won't work.

It does.

He probably needs to read the FAQ

http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php?tit...ave_the_ROMs.3F

The different exe's that work/don't work with the roms he has are going to have been built from different versions of the source, even if he thinks they are from the same.

> According to the instructions, I DO need a DAT file.

You don't. If you want to have clrmame rebuild your ROMs, all you do is point it at your mame executable.

For MAME, .dat files are only needed when scanning screenshots, flyers, artwork etc.

..

If you have ROMs that work in one mame but not the other, then that's because you have two different versions of mame, say .139 and .106.

You think he'd even understand it? He's already shown himself to be completely incapable of problem-solving. He ignores most of what people say when they're being helpful. I'm amazed anyone even replies to him any more.

What are you talking about ? How have I ignored what people have told me ? I've done everything that people have said. It just doesn't work. At least, I can't get it to work. What is your problem ? I'm just trying to get the Marvel Superheroes, Marvel Vs. Capcom, and Marvel Vs. Street Fighter games to work. I've been to every rom site I could find, but haven't found a single rom set that works in MAME. They all say that I'm missing CHD files, but it doesn't say what the CHD files are.

The message that MAME gives me says the game I want to play is missing one or several roms or chd files. I get the same message with the Star Wars arcade game. No matter where I get the rom from, it keeps telling me that it's missing rom and chd files. I don't know what to do.

Hey man, I understand your frustration but honestly, if MAME says you're missing files, then you're missing files. You need to find a site with updated ROM sets. Or, go to google and try searching for one of the ROMs that you're missing. Sometimes when you find one ROM that you're missing, you'll find the complete set. And please don't say that you've tried doing this because (hint hint) the process works fine for me.

>I don't know what to do.

The obvious suggestion would be to get them from somewhere where they aren't missing files.

That is assuming you're not getting caught out by not getting the bios or parent sets. A standard mistake is to see different revisions of the same game and one zip is 10mb and the other is 1mb & deciding that downloading the smaller one is better.

It's hard for us to reverse engineer why you are having problems, we know how to do what it is you're trying to do. But we don't know what it is you're doing wrong.

I can't search for the roms that I'm missing. MAME doesn't tell me. It just says missing one or several roms or CHD images. Try another game. In MAMEUI64, it would give you a list of files that you were missing.

You need to figure out how to use clrmame or else you will be in for these pain in the ass sorting problems indefinitely. And Google pleasuredome tracker.

See the specific information that I posted. This is how to get it:

Let's say your mame executable is named mame64 and you want to know what are the required roms for Killer Instinct - with rom name kinst.zip. You'd do this from a Windows command prompt opened in your MAME folder:

mame64 kinst -listroms

This will show you a list of all the files required to run Killer Instinct. Exactly like the ones I posted.

You still have to find them though. It's not MAME's fault that you can't find the ROMs.

The help was given several times...you miss files, find them, add them.

MAME DOES output a detailed list of missing files

F:\>mame pacman
pacman.6e NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
pacman.6f NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
pacman.6h NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
pacman.6j NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
pacman.5e NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
pacman.5f NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
82s123.7f NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
82s126.4a NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
82s126.1m NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
82s126.3m NOT FOUND (tried in pacman puckman pacman)
FATALERROR: ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.

Find the missing files, add them to your set and you're done.

If you're not familar with official MAME (which is a command line program), get an UI version...and the UI version ALSO gives you a detailed list of what is missing and usually also offer audit options.

ClrMAME is NOT difficult to use and the site even has it's own messageboard (God help Roman on this one!) The time you're wasting here could be spent learning how to use ClrMAME. I'm done trying to help you. You are missing files ... find them

Someone gave you a link to an excellent guide to use clrmame.
http://www.mameworld.info/easyemu/clrmameguide/clrmame-guide.html

I told you what you were doing wrong and I'll say again: "You don't need a "dat" file. Using this guide, go to "Using The Profiler" and jump to "Setting up an "EXE" file".
So what you did? You say: in my interpretation of the guide, you're wrong. Without even trying????

Then a moderator gave you a clear hint... not a hint, he said exactly where to find the roms... but damn, even that you can't understand.

People are being nice and helpful to you, but you're just being stubborn...

You repeatedly ignore any help offered, and keep coming back with increasingly stupid questions. The problem isn't that CMP doesn't work, it's that you're refusing to learn to use it.

Damn young people these days are lazy and they want instant gratification.

Hell, with the Internet, you can google and find answers to questions in seconds, but people are even too lazy for that.

Here's a clrmame guide from a few years ago. It might not be 100% perfect due to changes in the program, but I think most of it is correct...

Why don't you just use a UI or frontend to figure out what the exact ROMs you are missing. Right click the game and click Audit. It will tell you exactly which files you are missing. And then once you find those missing files, you can go back to using the commandline MAME if you dislike the UI version. Try using MAMEUIFX, it's my favorite MAME derivative. If you'd rather try a front end, try QMC2. Once you get used to MAME and are comfortable with it, then you can try fancy, eye candy front ends like Hyper Spin, Emuloader, GameEX.

You should do some research for which derivative or frontend that suites your best needs... compare and contrast them and choose whatever tickles your pickle. But for a beginner like yourself, I'd definitely recommend you not using the official commandline MAME because you aren't knowledgeable enough yet to configure it. If you use MAMEUIFX or MAMEUI, it's easier for you to understand and figure out how to configure it.

Huh. Because I have the newest version of MAME, 0.152, and it isn't command line. I had to find a program called Romcenter to get it to tell me what files I was missing. I was able to get all the games I wanted to work working. Except for Pole Position, but I've never really like that one anyway.

I can't believe he is using Romcenter. It slower than clrmamepro. Clrmamepro is more stable and smoother.

Actually, I do. I've been doing a LOT of command line work lately. When I start MAME, a menu sort of like the menus that come up when you're fiddling with a game while it's open appears with a list of some of the games you have. I really wish there was a way to make it show you ALL the games you have. Like MAMEUI64 does.

Yes a sort of menu appears if you run MAME without any set parameter, but still, it's a commandline based application (which can be "double clicked" as any other cmdline app, too...and this 'menu' simply prevents you from shutting down the console immediately).

MAMEWAH from http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/sho...part=1&vc=1 or older version from http://mamewah.mameworld.info/ Note: Just use the rom_folder_vs_listxml

And some others out there.

That is the command line version of MAME you're running, the menu appears because you started it without specifying a game.

You always talk as if you know what you're doing and it's not your fault, then when you're wrong you fall back to not knowing what you're doing and it's still not your fault.

LOL.

I don't know why this topic hasn't been closed yet, as it is against the rules to ask about missing files.

In fairness, CMP is actually more complicated to configure (at least in terms of getting a minimal do-the-right-thing setup) than MAME itself. Most apps have a learning curve, CMP has a learning 90 degree angle ;-)

It's asking where to get missing files that's against the rules. Asking how to find out which files you're missing or why files would be missing is allowed AFAICT.

I've got to say, when I was new to MAME and had a lot of the same questions, mame.dk, I believe, was a godsend. Then, I spent the time to look at and understand the source code so I could see exactly what was needed, and even be able to customize the software to my desires. While I had my brief moments of stupid questions and whatnot, I don;t think I pissed off the devs too much.

When you spend time to do some research and do some reading before you start posting questions, the devs and members here are incredibly curteous and helpful.

It's saddening how so many people these days refuse to spend time to research and learn about what they are doing and just demand to have their hands held the entire time.

God I don't miss the CPS2/CPS3 days. LOL.

I have been unable to get a working copy of Ninja Gaiden. I've tried probably 5 different places. But it doesn't work in Mame. I looked at it in Romcenter, and it says it's fine and not missing any files. But when I try it in MAME, it says that one or more roms or CHD files are missing. But not according to romcenter.

Then stop using Romcenter if it doesn't show you what is missing. Clrmamepro will show you what is missing. I promise that.
