Flyer Fever Update
#334271 - 11/06/14 12:48 AM

I've changed my mind. I am now posting ten new flyers a month (new as in not on TAFA). I posted all the upgrade flyers last month in 'silent' updates.

  • The Alphax Z - Wood Place (1986) [Ed Co., Ltd. license]
  • But-ten Ohara's Suit-cha Luck-a Dog-Fight / Acrobatic Dog-Fight - Data East (1984) [Technos Japan license]
  • Fuji Racway Deluxe - Fuji Enterprise (1976)
  • Fuji Televi-Five - Fuji Enterprise (1976)
  • Genma Taisen / Bega's Battle - Data East (1983) [laserdisc]
  • La Cible - Universal (1984)
  • Long Hitter - Taito (1985)
  • Magman - Logitec (1982)
  • Untouchable - Yachiyo (????)
  • Winner's Golf - Ohiragiken (1985)

Great finds there as always. Some of these are probably not documented on any sites at this time which is why TAFA (during its beginings) and your site help lead the way of what is out there yet to be found/preserved.

La Cible - Universal (1984)

Long Hitter - Taito (1985)

Magman - Logitec (1982)

Untouchable - Yachiyo (????)

Winner's Golf - Ohiragiken (1985)
--

Fuji Televi-Five - Fuji Enterprise (1976)

Fuji Raceway Deluxe - Fuji Enterprise (1976)

The flyer helps provide further info about the company Fuji. I am guessing they licensed from Taito and or Midway of games (see example of Wheels and/or Wheels II).

Speed Race (Fuji, 7?)
(From Andrew)
There is a very old (74-77?) vertical driving game I just got called "Speed Race". It has a large cabinet with a BW display, and a timer with a circle of led's to the right of the screen. Game ends when the timer runs out. Graphics are very simple like the earliest Atari games. I have access to another "Speed Race" cabinet. Is it vertical and made of moulded plastic, and very large (well over 6ft).

It's made by a company called "Fuji" (not Tatio as I originally thought). There is also a Fuji copyright on the board. I can't find a date anywhere but it is definately mid 70's. The cabinet is very well built with a big realistic woodgrain analogue steering wheel and gas pedal, but it's not as big as I remember. The board uses discrete circuitry, no cpu.

Thanks as always Greg.

You're onto something about Fuji, Taito and the game Speed Race. Here is a flyer to prove they either licensed Speed Race or cloned it.

Furthermore, the Speed Race cabinet is identical to this one for Zero Fighter Kamikaze. Though both are distributed by Leisure & Allied Industries, both game cabinets have the Fuji Enterprise logo.

The recent flyer addition certainly does help and clear up the info that has been on Tribble's page for some time.

I wouldn't be surprised that Keith Smith has almost all the info about some of the games and manufacturers from the 1970s era markets outside of N. American region. Keith has some blog entries that are informative compiled information about some of the obscure 1970s era games and the small companies that built the arcade video games.

I was able to verify this Fuji "Zero Fighter Kamikaze" independently, they simply called it Kamikaze. It was released 02/1976 and distributed by Esco Trading.
Don't have Speed Race in my list but I do have:

Fuji Enterprise (Japan)
1976/02 Kamikaze (distributed by Esco Trading)
1976/11 TeleVi-Five
1976/11 Fuji Raceway
1979/?? Star Invader
1976/?? Speed Race

It is a guess on my side, but I wonder if Model Racing's Flying Shark is also a clone of Fuji "Zero Fighter Kamikaze" or other way around. At first glance, they might be of same game, but more comparisons needed in case any of the games are ever found later.

If it helps, Deb just gave me a description of Flying Shark:

Quote:

It's an original MR game, probably the second they made (or the third, after Daredevil). It's a TTL game, with a grey-scale monitor. The player drive a biplane and has to fight two enemy biplanes; when he hits an enemy, another one appears. The aim is to destroy the largest number of airplanes before the time runs out.
