I5-4670 Sluggish MK4?
#341302 - 06/10/15 05:27 AM

Hi,

I've got an I5-4670 + GTX660 and I'm only getting about 75% speed for MK4 on 0.160. I've read others have it running with Core 2 Duo systems...

Anything I can do to try to troubleshoot?

My I7 2600K overlocked to 4.4GHz runs it around 120-150% speed in game. If yours is around the stock 3.4Ghz-ish range that might be why.

But isn't the 4670 at stock miles ahead of Core 2 Duo?

Yeah, it is, but being able to run it on a Core 2 Duo and being able to play it are two entirely different things.

Also, you were probably watching videos on YouTube of it running in MAME - when you write out a video file in MAME, the video file plays back full-speed even if the emulation itself didn't, so you can't make any inferences whatsoever as to the speed of it based solely on a YouTuber's hardware specs.

Sorry, to clarify, I have a friend who has it running at 100% on a Core 2 Duo, not a random YouTube video...

No tweaks or ini changes I can make to get it working?

Interestingly, if I use RetroArch + MAME core, MK4 plays at full speed...

Any ideas?

Yeah, RetroArch is probably using an old-ass version of the MAME core. They resort to hack jobs for the sake of speed and don't care one whit about accuracy.

Yes, you've configured MAME in some kind of terribly wrong way.

Woohoo. Thank you. I just deleted my config and restarted with a fresh one. Game works at 100%. Thanks so much!

So with a stock config file, the game plays at 100%. When I add Lotte's OpenGL shader, I see a drop to about 75% during gameplay.

Is the weak point, with shaders, the GPU or CPU clock speed?

GPU. Mostly; CPU can be minorly involved/affected. Try overclocking your card.

It's a GTX 660. Unless he's using a 4K monitor, it's clearly a configuration problem.

1280x1024 monitor in a bartop arcade

I have tried creating a fresh mame.ini file via mame -cc

Even that slows down once I turn on GLSL w/ Lotte's

Make sure you're running drivers downloaded from nvidia's website and not the ones installed by Windows Update.

I can't help you with GLSL configuration, I'm still only getting started with HLSL.

In my recent experience, that's where Win gets 'em from. But, sure, try anyway.

I don't know new or even newer cards, so I dunno.....if Sune remarks about it, then there's probly something amiss....
