NVRAM download for unlockables
#350569 - 02/23/16 07:51 AM

Does anyone have a collection of NVRAM files to unlock saved hidden features such as Smoke in Mortal Kombat 3.

Hmm I thought I had that one but if you do unlock it send me a PM for the NVRAM.

I only have the NVRAM for UMK3 to unlock the 3 characters.

Instead of sending a PM, can you please post it in this forum thread so we all can utilize it?

Thanks

Thanks again. Do you know of any other games with unlockables like this. I think Street Fighter Alpha 3 has some along with some of the 3D Namco fighters.

Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha has unlockable characters and play modes.
Street Fighter EX 2 Plus has unlockable characters
Tekken Tag Tournament has unlockable characters
Project Justice has unlockable characters/teams

That's just without thinking much

That sounds about right. If you have the NVRAM for these please share.

I think it'd be cool if someone set up a site to share "unlock NVRAMs". Unlike save states, the file formats on them basically never change so it'd be pretty safe to collect 'em for download.

I like this idea... are available to pick them up and make them available on my website.

Where do I find more?

Tekken series characters? new [Re: CTOJAH]
#350876 - 03/01/16 12:35 PM

> I was wondering, doesn't cheat do the job ?

Tekken 2 has some cheats to play as hidden characters, similar to Kombat Kodes, but I don't know every single one. A few early FAQs showed most of them but not for all characters; I suppose someone could go through the program code to figure out the remaining ones. Note that the hidden character cheats doesn't permanently unlock the character like UMK3 for example, it simply lets you play as them. For example, on the character select screen, putting the cursor on Lei, pressing start 4 times and then moving right will make the computer select Bruce. Note that the PlayStation version, and the arcade port included in Tekken 5 on PS2, removed these codes entirely.

For a quick "cheat", you can also change the game options to select Baek in place of Jun for an 11th character. This will also affect the mid-boss battles on stage 8: Selecting Law will make you face Jun instead of Baek on stage 8, and Baek will face Wang instead of Law. If all characters have already been unlocked, it also means that Wang will face Baek, and Jun will face Law. Regardless of the setting, Devil (or "Angel", who lacks her name in the arcade version) will always face Jun on stage 9 (never Baek).

On a side note, if you can find the original ZiNc (or S11emu?) ROM set of Tekken 2 Ver.B, tk2b, it will have an aptly-named "eeprom" file inside it. Assuming nothing has changed since MAME 0.148, unzip it, rename it to at28c16, throw it into the appropriate MAME nvram directory (tk2b evolved into tekken2ab in MAME) and you should have all characters unlocked and Baek should be first by a country mile. It should work for TES2/VER.B (which is actually World, not Asia), as well as TES3/VER.B (tekken2ub). I have not tested it with the Japanese versions. It will not work with Tekken 2 Ver.A as the data structure is different.

Tekken 3 and later don't have any character unlock cheats; you just have to wait a month for a new character to become available on the arcade machine. It isn't like the PlayStation versions where simply beating the game will give you a new character.

With Tekken 1, you're stuck with the original eight characters (think of it as SF2 World Warrior, with Tekken 2 being Champion Edition), unlike the PSX version where you could unlock and play as the bosses (not only that, most of the bosses had a few moves from Tekken 2, which was still in development when Tekken 1 was released on the home console; the Japanese version of Tekken 1 has a 1995/06/16 creation date on the CD; two months before the build date of Tekken 2 Ver.A).

I think he was referring to the use of MAME cheats to set appropriate values in NVRAM.

I know there used to be MAME cheats to achieve this in the Street Fighter Zero/Alpha games, but I don’t know if they got lost during the migration to XML cheats - I haven’t touched those games in ages.

There were no MAME cheats to unlock the extra characters in Street Fighter EX2+ at any time I checked, so if you want to play as Kairi you're probably going to have to run MAME for a long time.

Project Justice/Rival Schools 2/燃えろ!ジャスティス学園 has codes you can enter in service mode to unlock additional characters. The code for all characters is J2ACRC4U, there are also codes for individual characters listed here at GameFAQs.
