I have downloaded a lot of mame ROMs online that don't work. Why do people even bother uploading these ROMs on the Internet if they don't work ?

Since MAME often updates ROMS, some sites just have outdated ones that don't work anymore.

Why would anyone download ROMs that don't work? Unless they are planning on getting them working. Emulators don't write themselves...

There are lots of roms for different MAME versions. If one or more romsets you downloaded don't work with the current version, you have downloaded an outdated romset. Since MAME keeps changing everyday, you need to know how and where to find the latest romsets.

Sites, and many people, don't keep up with MAME release. Some sites haven't been updated in years. Some seem intentionally so. A lot of people assume wherever they find is current.
