What's the best current MAME reference site?

With 'reference' I mean a site where I can search for games, and each game sheet has good info from the MAME database output and history and stuff, and some screenies and whatnot. My first search seem to only show outdated sites, so I must be probably doing something wrong.

Anything with search/filters and in english? That only has alphabetic indexes at first. You can click on a category in the game sheets but first you must find a game with that particular property.

Agreed.
I love Progetto EMMA but it's four releases out of date.
Use Arcade Database - http://adb.arcadeitalia.net - instead, until Progetto EMMA is updated (if ever again?)
And if you find ADB lacking, Pi, the author has been very receptive to feedback, at least as receptive as cutebutwrong. Best way is email, but he does have a forum account here.
