hopefully it's actually an interesting version, only other time we've seen clones of this it's been a simple date hack, or the 'joystick' version where the roms are actually identical because the joystick support is done with some 3rd party logic board that simulates analog inputs just like MAME does.

It seems an earlier, less polished version: two things I noticed are it doesn't have tehkan superimpressed during demo play and it doesn't show the cup after the high score roll.
ROMs for the main and sub cpu seem quite different, too:
4.bin twc-4.bin 46.334839%
3.bin twc-6.bin 8.215332%
1.bin twc-1.bin 4.968262%
2.bin twc-2.bin 1.641846%

that's definitely interesting, maybe a prototype if there are that many visible changes

that's a bold and seemingly unsubstantiated claim..
game has been dumped plenty of times from various PCBs, seems unlikely they were all bootlegs.

This was added to mame in the 1990s. The fact that f205v dumped bootlegs that had 100% data matches doesn't mean what you think it does.

right
set 1 has been dumped from a board with official Tehkan markings
the bootlegs of this game are pretty much 1:1 clones of the original PCB, so not too surprising some of them use unmodified code.
f205v just provided verification of the rom data, what was on his bootleg matched the original set.
