DU: Sunday Dumpy Sunday
#370031 - 10/01/17 05:25 PM

antron loaned us a Virtua Athlete cart that looks like it could be considered a prototype.

Shoutime dumped the EPROM from the controller PCB that was missing for Air Inforno (Japan).

Shoutime also dumped ANES TON PUU MAHJONG (Japan)

caius dumped a newer version of Tecmo World Cup '94.

Porchy dumped an alternate bootleg of Athena.

We got some Sammy Prize Avenue hardware.

We got what appears to be an undumped version of Point Blank 2 (GNB2 VER.A World)

We got the USA version of Locked 'n Loaded for some dev work and to properly redump it.

Interestingly, the second VS9209 I/O controller on the Tecmo World Cup '94 PCB, near the "PLAY3" and "PLAY4" connectors, is actually populated here. Code to access it, however, is not in evidence.

src/mame/drivers/taitoair.cpp

@todo - Framebuffer DMA requires palette switch to be selected dynamically, see at first stage Course Select in Top Landing. My gut feeling is that 3d poly fill operation actually copies to internal buffer then a DMA op actually do the buffer-to-screen copy, including gradiation ROZ too;

- Air Inferno: missing landing monitor camera (blackened);
- Air Inferno: missing 3d HUD graphics;
- Air Inferno: Expert course has wrong 3d geometry;
- Air Inferno: Almost surely crashing during replay has missing smoke effect, looks quite odd atm.

GAME( 1990, ainferno, 0, airsys, ainferno, taitoair_state, 0, ROT0, "Taito America Corporation", "Air Inferno (US)", MACHINE_NOT_WORKING )
-

I wonder how many issues that will correct now that the previously missing rom is now supported. I am looking forward to another future update from Kale.

Mostly likely none, unfortunately.

Somebody needs to send me an Air Inferno/Midnight Landing PCB so we can run tests on the hardware Pity they're both hard to find.

That sucks. I was guessing maybe one issue could be immediately fixed with rom now being in use. I hope Kale has some success now that the rom is accounted for.

You might be busy with CPS-1 for a while.

Smit: Mr. Phil you got a package incoming, sir. Ready the probes and damn the torpedoes!
