Excellent news! Yeah, fresh eyes can really help

I am sure Supermodel will be one of the best emulator around, specially when it comes to user interactivity ...

Patience, young panda.

I'd like to get a release out before we start adding the MPEG board. We still have some issues to solve with smooth audio playback. Nik has been experimenting with multithreading and got a substantial performance boost by sticking the sound emulation in its own thread. That means we're back to the same speeds we had before we added sound, before anyone gets too excited

Sweet! Thanks. That'll save us some time! Do you have a recommended GPL-compatible MPEG codec? I've heard LAME is good. I'm also aware of MAD and some old library called mpg123 which is supposed to be perform well, but may not be as rigorous about adhering to the standard as MAD.

I take it GAME_IMPERFECT_SOUND is in the works pretty soon for a few of the games in the model3 driver?

GAME( 1996, scud, 0, model3_15, scud, scud, ROT0, "Sega", "Scud Race (Australia)", GAME_NOT_WORKING | GAME_IMPERFECT_GRAPHICS | GAME_NO_SOUND )

Good to see Tap-a-Tune getting some preliminary support.

LAME is an encoder, not a decoder MAD is probably the best quality decoder, but I'm not sure if that's a thing in this applicaiton. For M1 I use ancient old AMP, which was the original basis of Winamp. It's BSD-licensed and the sound quality is IMO "good enough" given the Model 3 streams are something like 32kbps mono.

The LAME source seems to include a decoder as well (ElSemi said he's used it before). I've never heard of AMP. I'll give it a look; it sounds like it'll be just what we need.

I modified AMP to be able to stream from arbitrary memory pointers, so it works quite well for this application

I cannot believe how much progress you guys are making. Bart and NIK, you guys are so awesome it's not even funny. Model 3 emulation at full speed with sound. The mind boggles.

If NIK can sort out the force feedback and get that working properly it's going to be best emulator EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent

Model 3 games are cool.

They looked amazing in their day, i still remember in 1998, leaving the Arcade place in awe after seeing them for the 1st time, they had Star Wars trilogy and Daytona 2 and Sega Rally 2 there.

Will there be a youtube clip of scud race before the release this time around?

Anyway, can't wait to see this, awesome work!

RB: would you ever consider adding M1 into MAME official? Would be a neat addition, especially for frontend use :P

No, but it's a DLL precisely so frontends can build it in if they want. I'd much rather have M1 playing while I pick a game than some random MP3s or whatever people put in FEs usually
