Your Christmas wish from MAME

If you had a wish list for mame to do for 2013.
Mine would be to have mame fully emulate naomi.c working games. and if I had one more wish it would be more laserdisc games to be emulated.

My personal wish list...
1) Better Model 1 and Model 3 support (specifically for the SW games) 2) Star Rider supported 3) Someone finds, dumps, and emulates Vertigo 4) Someone finds, scans, and sends me a Puckman Bezel, Japan Galaga Bezel, and Tatio SI Moon 5) Stunt Cycle and Death Race (might be years, but hey...)
And if I had to pick "New" systems to see playable...
- Triforce for Mario Kart Arcade and F-Zero AX - Chihiro for Outrun 2 SP - Lindbergh for Afterburner Climax and Sega Race TV
|
RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

Fortunately Stunt Cycle is running in Adam Bousley's DICE. Someone is needed to handle the analog discrete components for audio sounds whether it be DICE or MAME.

Yep. This one may take some time.

You meant to say one that is working....because some roms need to be redumped again or another board needs to be found and roms dumped from that board.

My wishlist...
-Silent Scope playable -advancements with Model 3 -More laserdiscs supported -I'd also like to see a resurgence in decapping to increase accuracy of existing games. -Not strictly MAME, but I'd like to see an increase in the widescreen artwork area too.

LOL. The video says it all.
For any that missed this specific update earlier, it needs either couriersud or Derrick Renaud to show up and hopefully handle the analog portions of this when they have spare time.
0.145u4 -------
Formalized the Votrax SC-01 device. Implemented the full set of digital logic from the patent, including the timing circuit, transition circuit, glottal generator, and noise source. Some unknowns still exist with regards to clocking, due to contradictory statements in the patent, but as it stands now, all parameters are fetched and processed, phonemes are requested, and in theory all that remains is for someone with analog sound experience to simulate the filters on the output. For now, you just get the raw glottal pulse mixed with the noise signal based on the vocal and fricative amplitudes, which is enough to show progress, but hardly a pleasing result just yet. Fully working Keyboardmania (although I suspect when it finally does work 100% and I play it, I will discover that the song selection is all Korean crap I have never heard of Emulation of any currently-not-fully-working Capcom games that feature Dhalsim. (including any undumped bootlegs/hacks we can get our hands on Playable 100% working versions of Star Wars Arcade and Star Wars Trilogy (including the awesome John Williams sound track)

What the hell, just a bit of fun isn't it:
1. Networking support for games that had it 2. Model 2 improvements 3. Sound fixes to Seibu SPI 4. Raiden 2 5. More outputs hooked up for MAMEhooker to exploit (OutRun springs to mind) 6. More gambling games SH4 Dynarec
Not sure there's much else I'm really hoping for with MAME now, it's overall in pretty good shape for my needs.
Well, maybe I could have tacked on CV-1000's re-instatement but I assume it'll return in a few years (so long as SaiDaiOuJou really is the last game on that hardware). Only really missing Daifukkatsu if I'm honest.

HLSL handhelds screen settings for MESS. Window sizes in full screen mode. Like the bsnes have. New MAMEWAH for Windows XP, 7 and 8 with touch screen support. MAME and MESS with touch screen support. More ROM's dumpers. Just dump them all. Just like catching Pokemon's. Just for hell of it.

Mame is already great, but we can always dream.
Mine would be: 1. The Don Bluth's LD games/American laser Games. 2. Advancements in Model 1/Model 2/CPS 3/Naomi/Atomiswave. 3. 3d artwork support with moving parts. 4. HLSL enhancements/HLSL Vector Glow. 5. Skeleton drivers for all the PC games that Smitdogg dumps, including Taito Type X etc. (It wasn't in my wish list, but sounded very good).

You can find out the song selection right now. Run kbm2nd or 3rd, hit F2 when it errors out, restore factory settings, flash sound rom for a few minutes (it doesn't seem to end properly, so give it about 5 minutes of wall clock time at 100% or more speed and then quit MAME cleanly so the NVRAM saves). Restart MAME and the game and it should boot right up. (kbm2nd you may have to hold down the right arrow to avoid an error calibrating the controls).
This same procedure applies to all the ParaPara games in firebeat.c, by the way.

Two words.....
CRAZY OTTO
but realistically..... - More laser disk support, including Goal to Go (which Daphne never could get working) - Graphics fixes on the Birdie King series where the ball is off from what the screen says (you land on fairway and it says you are in sand trap). - Stunt Cycle and other discrete games, even though I can run it full speed in dice. - Double Donkey Kong and other multigame boards working, both licensed, and home brew. - Mame XX-in-1 bootleg to run full speed. (I can dream, right??) - A new version of Misfit Mame (I can REALLY dream!!!!) - The moon base artwork from TAITO Space Invaders Part II. it is similar, but different to the Midway version, similar to the way the moons are in the original SI. Many versions ago, there actually WAS a Taito SI Part II base artwork in Mame, but that was long before the newer artwork. - LIke to see some of the lost prototypes like Beavis and Butthead and Marble Madness 2.

I would like to see....
1) the gals panic series completed & working 2) support for the laser games 3) just see the existing drivers/games cleaned up and working 4) varisous bug fixes, etc.
No particular order, and just a wish list. I understand the list of games in mame that need redumped, protection cracked etc, just be cool to see all of the games work as mame as the dev's intended.
But thanks mamedev for another great year !

Simple wish:
An option to disable the toggle for the gear shift input on the hi/lo driving games so they will work like they are supposed to with real shifters.
Greedy wish:
An input system that allows any type of shifter to be used regardless of what the original had. ex. return to center up/dn shifter (including paddle shifters) could be used for hi/lo or 4-speed games.

Since MAME and MESS now come in one source package making the MESS source a part of the MAME source download...
I wish there was NTSC color palette generation. It is really needed for NTSC console systems.

"NTSC color palette generation" is gibberish. If you mean NTSC fringing and other artifacts (like the "NTSC filter" in NEStopia/bsnes/etc), HLSL can do that right now. If you mean drivers using YIQ-space math to derive the RGB palette, the drivers that need to largely already do.
We plan long-term to simply output the correct "raw" data from the drivers and have HLSL do the full NTSC simulation, but obviously that can't happen until there's an OpenGL version. I would be a cranky vampire hunter if I suddenly couldn't use my own Apple II driver ;-)

Poor phrasing on my part.
This...
"...output the correct "raw" data from the drivers and have HLSL do the full NTSC simulation..."
..is what I was trying to articulate. Thank you.
Also, it would be nice to see tint/hue control as typically adjustable on an NTSC display. I know we have RGB controls that can produce the same effect when tuned properly, but a tint/hue adjust would complete the other typical NTSC controls already present:
-Brightness -Contrast (aka Picture) -Saturation (aka Color)
Tint/Hue is the last 'basic' tweak missing. Following a similar pattern to the other controls, It could start at zero and decreasing the value below zero 'pushes' red, while increasing the value above zero 'pushes' green.

Let's see.. would be great to actually win some money from some of those gambling machines.
But if you mean, Christmas wish from MAME*dev*, that's a different story.
- Votrax SC-01 sound chip emulation for games like Q*bert and Wizard of Wor, but also the few Apple II Mockingboard games that used it (as if RB's Apple II driver and OG's 6502 core improvements need more awesome sauce).
- Qsound emulation
- Integration of MAMEhooker force-feedback support directly into MAME in a cross-platform way (you didn't say we had to be realistic, did you?)
- Tighter coupling of MAME and MESS (though a lot of great work this year to that end)
- Improved psx driver support - though extremely cool that Mednafen and no$psx are doing it this year.
- An auto-threading build of MAME/MESS, whenever that falls out of Microsoft's orbit.
- A DECO cassette dump of Manhattan, so I could gift it to gregf.

1a. Decap and emulate "Bonze Adventure" C-Chip, so that the game becomes fully playable without bugs 1b. Decap and emulate C-Chip for other Taito games (eg: "Operation Wolf", Rainbow Islands" or "Volfied") to perfect emulation and get rid of simulation
2a. Find and dump missing CPS1/CPS2 games so all regions (including "Oceania") are preserved 2b. Find and dump missing non-Japan versions of Namco S1/S2 games I've played in France ("Alice in Wonderland", "Dangerous Seed", "Phelios" and "Rompers")
3. Add more games to peplus.c driver (mainly the only gambling games I find interesting)

The thing about Oceania versions is that you never actually saw them in the intended region. You saw Asia and Japan versions most of the time, and occasionally a US version.

My local bowling alley (Ed Fleming Lanes) had Street Fighter Zero 2 Oceania back in the late 1990s. The bowl ended up being bought out and converted to a gym unfortunately. Going along with random regions though, Galactic Circus used to have MakaiMura or DaiMakaiMura (one of the two), as opposed to the 'Ghosts' series as known in the US/EU. However, I have never seen a Gun Bullet/Barl/Balina machine, it's always Point Blank (1, 2, 3). Australian Street Fighter games have always had 'M.Bison' as der ersatz Fuhrer as opposed to 'Vega' (and the above SFZ2 had 'Charlie' instead of 'Nash').

Arcade I went to in Melbourne had Japan SFEX2+ with Vega, Japan SFZ2A with Gouki, Asia KoF series, Asia Point Blank series, Japan Capcom vs SNK, Japan Project Justice (Rival Schools 2 in US), Japan Tekken Tag, Japan Virtual On series. The only AU version of anything they had was Scud Race. In fact, right now Melbourne airport has Japan Power Smash 2.

More outputs implemented. HowardC did a good job on the guns but several racing games are out there that could use some love.
Distinct machine instances, if that's the term for it. Aaron seemingly put a lot of effort into this in 2010 but unless I've been missing something there hasn't been much of a push since. How far is MAME from running multiple machines?

I saw this fresh at AMOA and pushed hard to get it for our family fun center but the budget went to ticket-eater upgrades and other redemption related bleh. Hope it works well in MAME, thanks!

Here's my wishlist
- [naomi.c] Get more games using the NAOMI and its associated revisions promoted to working status - As of 0.145, there's only 1 game using using the naomi.c driver that works.
- [schamp][sfight] Get this working as well. - Granted, this one is for nostalgia, but a working Sonic the Fighters in MAME will make me very happy
- [neogeo.c]Add full multi-cart support.
- [Win32] More regular updating of the development toolchains.
- [Win32] Drop DirectX 8 support and add DirectX 10 (and possibly even DirectX 11.0/11.1) - Granted, this will require a switch from DirectInput to XInput (for gamepads and joysticks) and the Windows message loop (for keyboards), but it removes one last vestigal reason to support Windows 9X/ME/2000, and it will allow Direct2D support

I believe that Windows 9x support was dropped a long time ago. Switching to DirectX 10 will kill support for Windows XP, which would piss off a LOT of people, so I don't think that will happen any time soon.

Nah, it's possible to support both DX9 and DX10+, it's just XP users will likely not get future rendering-related features like HLSL 2.0 and hardware rendering for the 3D games.

To be fair, Windows XP users would still have DirectX 9 as a fallback. In addition, Xinput is available for users of Windows XP SP1 and higher, so the only people getting dropped are those who are already unsupported by M$.
