RAM (4GB vs 8GB) Vista x64 C2D E8500

Hey guys,
In a 64-bit OS (7 or Vista) running 64-bit MAME with an E8500 running stock, would there be any benefit upgrading beyond 4GB up to 8GB? It's really centered around NFL Blitz. Game plays pretty good, but has a bit of sound stutter. Wasn't sure if RAM, would help that.

Won't help at all. The more demanding games are all about CPU power which the latest i5 or i7 @ 3 or 4 GHz do very well

My PC is running Windows 7 64-bit with a quad core processor and 4GB RAM. I rarely see it use more than 2.5 GB RAM even compiling MAME.

No, but overclocking it will help.

Exactly right. If there is decent cooling in the case than 4.2 GHz should be extremely simple. A lot of the older C2D chips have achieved that easily with only minor voltage and temp increases.

Yeah, I had an HP elite 8000 small form factor pc given to me. Solid MAME box, but unfortunately I don't see any way to over clock it in the bios.

Well, I would say make sure your ram is top quality capable of high speeds if you are going to overclock that heavy and prepare to spend a decent time investment on testing settings/trial and error/stability tests.

Yep. Boards with limited overclocking options will typically overclock your memory as you try to increase the CPU speed, and only give you limited (or no) way to divide the memory clock back down. So you have to start with memory that will handle higher speeds. Also, depending on which memory speeds are programmed into your memory modules (SPD), you may need to manually set the memory specs if the board allows.
