Any recommends on always-on monitors?
#354274 - 05/15/16 07:24 PM

Still rebuilding my broken MAME cab.

By always on I am referring to the monitor being plugged into a slave outlet, so when I turn on my MAME cab, everything about it comes on as well.

Looking in my local T.V. stores, none of the new T.V.s I saw will work. All the ones I looked at, you need to turn them on, either with a remote or a button on the set itself. I need a monitor with a physical "on" button such that it's always on, and so the monitor can come to life when power comes to it.

Any ideas?

No specific recommendation for model of monitor/TV, but if you're decasing it, perhaps you could bypass the momentary power switch? Look for PL1's example in the linked thread. You'd have a little bit of soldering to do, but it looks easy enough.

Many newer sets have a setting in the menu to turn on automatically after a power failure; this will give the behavior you're looking for.

This is a weird thing. I recently got this otherwise ki-ller 32" Element LED back-lit LCD for my main PC rig ($150 at Wallyworld; viewing angles are fabulous). The suck of it is it has to be turned on. The power led lights red with power, but it's like a pre-power-up kind of thing. Turns blue only when power or remote button is pressed. Nothing in the menu for it, either.

I recall people at byoac would stuff a toothpick in the button gap to jam it 'on'.

Thanks RB. I'll check this weekend for this feature. If I find a good match, I'll report back for others who may want to follow suit.

I remember when the big debate was tube vs flat screen. Gone are those days, eh?

I ended up finding a like-new monitor on Ebay that serves the need perfectly, and I won the bid with just $14, which included shipping. Probably cost more than that just to ship!
