How do I get player 2 enabled for Atari 2600?

For other systems like Colecovision it's enabled by default. I thought turning on the 2nd controller as a slot device would do the trick but it did not.

Figured it out. You have to select 'reset' in the slot device menu after you enable player 2. Not very intuitive but at least it works.
Can someone tell me how to make this setting 'stick' permanently? Closing and then re-opening I have to do it all over again.

lol figured this out too. Hopefully this helps someone else.
Why this isn't enabled by default is beyond me.
But anyways create a 2600.ini file with just the following lines:

joyport1 joy
joyport2 joy
