Mame doesn't tag anything as gray so you are talking about a frontend. You'll need to either ask why mame tags them how they actually do (not working maybe?, I don't know) or ask on the messageboard for the frontend you are using because the question you asked actually doesn't make sense the way you asked it.

Okay sry for that ... i am new on this.

So here is the situation.
I am running MAME 0.184

Attached file shows it.
I just wanna know why some roms are grey instead of white
on the game selection screen.

In some ohter circumstances the font is yellow and also it is
written what is wrong. Like sound imperfect etc.

In my case everything runs perfect. Just the color of the font is
irritating my. Mayby a stupid question but dont wanna die dump

Thanx so far

If you're running mame64.exe directly and using it's internal UI, it shows clones as gray.

If it botheres you that bad then select parents on the left and all the games on the listing will be the white font color.

Oh my bad, when I read his post the picture in my head was grey tagged meant a grey icon to the left of game names.

That's a terrible idea though if you are looking to play Cave games. Have fun with the bullshit Another Ver Futari. I would have blocked the dump release if I would have known what was coming from that shit.

For me the gray never bothered me so I have it show everything when I use that. I can understand how the gray is annoying.

Not sure if there's an easy way to change that behavior as it's not really necessary due to it telling you at the bottom what the clone is anyway.

I guess it's that way for Devs to easily eyeball stuff? Otherwise I don't know what it's purpose is or why it matters and needs to be gray on the listing to begin with.

It's probably an easy add to an ini file options to make "no_grey" or something, I would imagine.
