MAMEHub 0.2 Released
#241237 - 12/15/10 03:56 PM
|
|
|
MAMEHub, a frontend for ClientServerMAME and ClientServerMESS, has finished alpha testing and is ready for the public.
MAMEHub lets players meet and arrange games. MAMEHub also wraps ClientServerMAME and ClientServerMESS (which are command-line programs) with a nice GUI interface so you don't have to be a command-line guru to use them. Lastly, it has an auto-updater so everyone is guaranteed to be running the same version of CSMAME/CSMESS, and it checks to make sure you have port 5805 mapped to your computer, so everyone who is in the lobby has the right networking setup to play.
You can get the binaries here (source code is coming): https://github.com/MisterTea/ClientServerMAME/downloads
This page has a manual for MAMEHub: http://10ghost.blogspot.com/p/mamehub-tutorial.html
Here is a video of two people playing TMNT online using ClientServerMAME in MAMEHub: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdWzA0IC8K8
If you find any bugs, please post on the blog (http://10ghost.blogspot.com) or email me, thanks!

And the award for Most Off-Topic Post Ever goes to...
But seriously, it's cool this is out, although I'm a little confused how it's good enough to post the binaries but not the source

Haha, don't worry the source is coming. It's going to take awhile because I don't want someone to use the source to denial-of-service attack my house and bring down my internet, but as soon as I've secured it I'll release everything :-P

Does it improve any "link" emulation? For example, Virtua Racing's 20 laps mode is enabled if multi-cabinets are linked.
|
"Any company has no power to stop people emulating"
MAME is the emulator of no giving in the pressure from any company even if they don't allow

no, csMAME doesn't support linked cabinets (as it was stated many times before).

Hey Shima,
This is designed to link games that aren't supposed to be linked. Like, mortal kombat is designed to have two people standing at the same cabinet, but this program lets you play mortal kombat together even if you are on opposite sides of the globe.
Hopefully that explanation clears it up.

I can't understand your explanation. It is hard to recognize your English and explanation what do you mean. Another example, Cadash supports max 4 players with linked cabinet. Please easy explain this case on your MAME.
If it is not, I can't figure it out. Because many ancient games doesn't support multi-cabinet and works stand alone, like TMNT. So "Link" based on "Network" is not original function and even in the linkable game supported by original, it doesn't improve any linking emulation. What purpose does it has? For support of MAME main development? For only "enjoy playing" the game?? or For closed ROM upload/download??? I can't find merit in CS cries if so and even I feel it is very closed to some illigal MAME.

It allows multiple people to play the same 'cabinet' over the internet.
Hopefully that makes it through the translators.

this kind of linking (Cadash, Virtua Racing, etc.) will be implemented in MAME when the exe is capable to run two sessions in parallel and to make them communicate one with the other

true. MAMEHub does a completely different thing
> What purpose does it has? For support of MAME main development?
no. it has nothing to do with MAME
> For only "enjoy playing" the game??
mainly yes. it offers an alternative to K*illera which does not violates MAME license and which does not infect your computer with viruses
> I can't find merit in CS cries if so and even I feel it is very closed to some > illigal MAME.
no it is nowehere close to illegal MAME, as long as it does not violate any of the clauses at http://mamedev.org/legal.html
given that the source is available (for ClientServerMAME & MESS) and it does not offer any copyrighted material with the exe, why should it be illegal?

Pretty neat.
Observations:
- if I change the directory when installing - for example to, say, e:\games\mamehub - the 'donate' button image for the main window doesn't get extracted or something, and I get an error box when loading mamehub.
- When extracted, you have to hunt for the mamehub exe; it is not in the main directory.
- I loaded a game, paused, then un-paused it. The speed was increased.
- I get no pop-up menu when I click and right-click on other users.
- double-clicking a game in my LFG does not load it.
Recommendations:
- hub to query vmame for rom directory, so that it can be easily changable and selectable. This will also make it the same for every game, and not have to be specified each time a different one is loaded.

You need port 5805 TCP and UDP forwarded to your computer.
There's several utilities you can find on the net that will tell you if you have done this correctly.

-Can you tell me what the error says?
-You should run the .bat file that's in the main directory, not the .exe
-Pausing is not supported in CSMAME yet
-What OS are you running?
I like your recommendation, it's on my TODO list.

Okay, well, the error issue is fixed by clicking on the bat file - though it takes a good 30 seconds or so to load up the FE. It's much quicker clicking on mamehub.exe.
I still get no pop-up menu when right-clicking on users.
I'm using tinyXP 11.

Windows asked me the first time round whether I wanted to block, continuing blocking, etc. Later, games would not load, and I did get a notepad notice that about the port - but only because I'd changed the rom path in the vmame ini, or/and had not specified the path in the FE box.
Re-installing to a pretty much default state (I re-wrote the installation path) solved this issue.

Worked great for me and another player in a nearby region. Here are the results (4 pics).
We played mk for about an hour (43 vs. matches). Very playable and fun.
Thanks for MAMEhub!

The glitched Raiden always cracks me up. Yea, it was a lot of fun! We need to do it again sometime.

The bat file goes out on the internet and gets the latest updates, and there are always a lot of updates since I change the code daily, that's why it takes so long.
TinyXP??

I'm surprised you're not familiar with it. Essentially, it's a super streamlined version of XP. MicroXP is even more so. Anyways, the following are still issues:
- I get no pop-up menu when I click and right-click on other users.
- double-clicking a game in my LFG does not load it.

Can you email / PM me a copy of the console output? The output produced by the .bat file
