I feel like this is going to be a bust. What is there to find, really? If they were really crushed, it'll just be fragments of plastic and PCBs. I highly doubt any labels or anything functional would have survived being buried in a landfill all these years.

Well, if they find anything, it can now be properly recycled at least.

Anybody watch BBC Click a few months ago? The mass ET cartridge burial was confirmed as a hoax.

I have to think this is going to be a giant failure, but it's a delicious enough rumor that I'm sure it'll happen again.

It will be the wrong type of plastic for recycling. There won't be any precious metals in there either.
They could transport what they find to Guiyu and make a follow up documentary on them.

One thing is for sure...
I would not think twice about going on a wild goose chase like this if some stupid bastard with more money than sense offered to fund it.
Hey, i heard space poodles from Mars burried 300 tons of gold in Ibiza. Give me £1,000,000 sponsorship and i will start digging every night when the night clubs close.

In fact the story behind the Atari's burial site is very interesting, that's why there are people who are still trying to uncover all the details, AVGN film will be based on this too, although on a comedy approach.

We know that Atari dumped stuff there, we know some of what they dumped.
Hopefully they'll figure out exactly where it is, so that we can find out what condition it is in.
If it was crushed and covered in concrete then I would expect it to be pretty unidentifiable.
If you could generate this much interest in something then people would throw money at you.

@smf
If someone came up to me and said:
"I am really interested in crushed plastic, that may or may not be encased in concrete and buried in a desert for 30 years."
I would probably walk away slowly and telephone the nearest psyche ward to come and collect you. You must really be the life and soul of the party with such "interesting" hobbies.
What is your other exciting party trick? counting all the grains of tarmac on your neighbours driveway?

They should bring Leonard Nimoy on board to do narration and give it an "In Search Of..." type feel.

There is one other thing that nobody has thought about yet...
DESERTS MOVE OVER TIME.
So even if someone from Atari who was involved in the burial (which i still dont believed happened) told you the EXACT location of the thing, it probably wouldn't be there now. It could be miles away from the original location.
Pity George W Bush isn't still in power... He could pretend it was the Iraqi deserts and turn the whole fucking thing into a crater.

After witnessing the price people pay for Stadium Events NES carts one can never underestimate the stupidity around 1980s video game cart collectors. I could turn your situation/story around and ask about a rare NES exercise cart and it would be as interesting to me as crushed plastic and far less than anything to do with E.T.
Whether they find it or not I'm sure the video will get a lot of views so I guess if they put ads on it...

You believe that deserts move over time and yet you don't believe Atari dumped stuff there?
You better watch out, the desert is coming for you & it's bringing the sahara to sort you out.

I'd rather not. I want to know what kind of school you went to where the only thing they teach you is the underground movement patterns of tonnes of landfill and concrete? Because you think if I didn't learn that then I didn't learn anything.

I very much doubt it would have moved far in this case. People generally select geologically stable sites for landfills, and in geological terms the burial didn't happen all that long ago. I don't believe it would have moved more than ten metres.

What's the connection between this and AVGN and his movie ?
P.S. Hey Andrew - I always jerk off on Your posts. (those with pictures/gifs/videos in attachment) Is that normal or something is wrong with me ? Sometimes I get boner even if You post anything at all ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/oops.gif) I suppose it's called "Pavlovian conditioning"
