Inherited, Previously Working MAME Cabinet. Restoring issues.
#345365 - 09/20/15 05:36 PM Attachment: 0.jpg 25 KB (0 downloads)

Hey All,

I am new here, so please go easy on me. I have inherited a mame cabinet from a very close friend of mine who was murdered a few years ago, ( sorry for the sob story, just trying to illuminate the sentimental value of this cabinet to me,) and I would like to get it back to its full functioning glory. But there are a few issues with this because he was in the middle of his rebuild and didn't keep any notes as far as I can tell.

Heres what I have:

Computer tower with fully functioning emulator on it. (Excuse my lack of lingo knowledge if im referring to things improperly)

Cabinet with power supply, coin receptical and buttons
[image][/image]
zenith crt monitor
[image][/image]
jamma emulator card
[image][/image]
a hodgepodge of other wires and connectors.

Backstory:

I have played this exact setup before at full functionality and completed Gradius III from the snes emulator and it was awesome. My friend said he heard a constant high pitched squeal coming from it and replaced all the capicitors on the monitor i believe, but never hooked all the wires back up.

As you can see from below, I have hooked up the pc tower to my computer monitor and it still works. My issue is that I do not know how to get the connections correct to get that to play on the zenith crt. I know they have matched up before as i have played on this mame before, but I cant find a connection on the crt where the cable will correctly match up to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Monumentalis

What is the other end of the PS2 wire connected to?

That goes to the pcb on the monitor. There should be a row of connectors & it should only connect to them in 1 way so no problems there but, I'm not sure where it's coming from. It appears to be coming from the jamma board? Does the pc have an arcadevga or does that jamma board convert the signal properly for the crt? If you don't know but that was how it was hooked up before then you should be OK. If not sure, you could do damage to any/all of the parts involved there so don't do it until you're certain!

I'm not familiar with that type of jamma board so I'm guessing. It's a little hard to tell what's going where & from where.

I'll assume that the video signal is coming from PC to the jamma board & then out to the zenith crt. Also that the jamma harness is coming from the controls to the board & then back in to the PC via PS/2? What are the other ports on the jamma board? Can you post some more pix of things?

Maybe this will help get you going in the right direction and some others can chime in with their thoughts.

Perhaps re-stating what Bad Billy said, simply: you need to connect the video end of the monitor to the jamma harness. Usually, the monitor is wired right to it, but perhaps here you friend rigged a connector. If it's not there, you'll have to. Look up the jamma pinout, and see where the video leads on it are going to (that's what we can't see over here).

Zenith just makes the tube. The chassis is made by someone else. Look for other labels on the frame somewhere. Some common arcade monitors include:

Makvision 2929D
Wells Gardner D9800, D9400
Wells Gardner D9200
Wells Gardner K7000
Wells Gardner 25K7131
Wei-Ya M3129
Hantarex MTC 9110, Hantarex Polo
Hantarex Polostar 25
Nanao MS-2930, MS-2931
Nanao MS9-29
Rodotron 666B-29

The board in the picture is an Ultimarc J-PAC board.

The computer is most likely either using an ArcadeVGA video card, or some kind of Soft15KHz GroovyMame setup with a non-ArcadeVGA card. That's the most common setup these days.

I think I see the video connector for the monitor in this pic. It's usually three wires. Not black/white/green though, that would be AC power... hot/neutral/ground.
