Might be over 9000.

I don't know about the non HERO version though. Forget about this one for now.

I barely learned this existed a week ago, and it's dumped and partially emulated already. Awesome.

I don't expect there'll be a ton of differences from normal 98UMFE, but it's still great to see this emulated.

New characters, various fixes and and of course, only in english and chinese texts

KoF 98 UM is a copy (with other fixes) of this game

engrish, definitely engrish, it's very obvious nobody proofread any of it :-)

interestingly if you region hack it to Japan it defaults to 'Japanese' but it's likely an incomplete translation (the win quotes are completely missing) as it doesn't looks like the game was released in that region (also as soon as you go to service mode and change the language you can't set it back to Japanese)

Uh. What? The PGM2 version of the game came after the original release. The TaitoX2 and PS2 versions were released in 2008, PGM2 was released in 2009.

Is this a year or what & it's not over yet.
2017 has got to be a year where the most breakthru's in emulation there has ever been.
I can't wait for 0.193 release to see what else there is.

Deathsmiles II Makai No Merry Christmas is a present i'm asking Santa to bring me, but I know i'm not getting it as i'm on the wrong list.

The King of Fighters ’98: Ultimate Match HERO (PGM2) is well good enough for me & i'll probably not do too well on it but it will be well worth to see whats different in it.

Thanks to all the Mame team & all those that has donated.

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS & A GREAT NEW YEAR ALL !!!

Only left is the Dodonpachi Daioujou Tamashii and Knights of Valour 3 from the pgm2.cpp list. Until more get added.

Even though ddpdojh, kov3, kov3_102 and kov3_100 need the rest of the dump.

you're probably not going to see them

They were Japan only, and Japan seems to have declared them prototypes, even if an actual source at IGS says they were full-production budget games that simply didn't receive much advertising (because they were meant to be low-budget, shipped primarily to a foreign market, and therefore not worth promoting)

as a result the price people are asking for them has gone from about $250 a few years back to >$2000 now even if their true value should be the lower of those figures. chances are they're all sat in a warehouse somewhere.

the IGS contact also says there was a 3rd puzzle game that nobody even seems to have mentioned or documented anywhere so god knows what people will want for that now if one shows up.

Add the completed then canceled new version of Saidaioujou to the list (might as well)

on PGM2? that seems unlikely, PGM2 can't do any of the blending effects that the CV1K board does and since the DDP games make extensive (IMHO far too much) use of them it would have been something of a visual downgrade.

PGM2 is just a traditional arcade system in design with everything in ROM ready for instant access, while the CV1K is more like a computer where everything has to be loaded into RAM from ROM when it's needed. Converting from between architectures requires extensive reworking of the code and wouldn't make much financial sense.

maybe they meant PGM3, that's just some kind of Linux based SoC that could have done the CV1K stuff I believe.

PGM2 really isn't much of an upgrade from PGM1, which in turn isn't really much of an upgrade from the NeoGeo (in some areas, it's actually less capable) Aside from a better CPU, *maybe* better sprite fill-rate, a 'simpler' sound system, and a single extra bit of colour depth on the sprite/background layer PGM2 is really just the PGM1 hardware rearranged a bit.

I was told PGM2 but ok.

It's labeled a new version, they could have changed the graphics and effects...

I'd say the transparencies were rather fundamental to the look by that point tho.

It would have looked like DOJ at best, there's a reason the PGM2 version of DOJ doesn't really improve the graphics, the hardware isn't actually fundamentally any better than PGM1, I suspect the main reason it exists is because it was cheaper and the parts required for PGM1 based PCBs were becoming more difficult to source.

You are so right about that Haze. Look at Marble Madness II: Marble Man (Prototype) for example. I don't understand why they are hoarding this game. Paperboy is way better than this. Just boring after a while of playing it.

Anyway puzzle games turn me off. Except for the good ones.

Because if it was dumped then there would be no desire for people to go play it at events and the owner is interested in making people gawk over his treasure and not interested in preservation the way we are. Pretty simple. And he's the more "normal" one - most people would do what he is doing instead of handing it out on the internet how we do things. We are the minority.

What about PGM3? There is only one game IIRC. Is there any plans on getting that one?

I think we have it.

It's just some ARM based System on a Chip thing likely running Linux, game is encrypted on a card. Will probably run like crap in MAME as it's more like smartphone hardware than a traditional arcade board.

Makes sense tho, why make an expensive arcade board with custom chips when you can just use the same cheap SoC type solutions all the people making the xx-in-1 boards are using and do most stuff in software.

The 'Y2' system on which Kof2002UM is on is also SoC based, although does actually use a sub-board with roms on it rather than just a CF card, so might be a bit closer to a real system. We don't have anybody able to dump that to find out yet tho (we're keeping an eye out for the board going cheap in China however)
