On my ass-tastic daily driver laptop from 2012 (Intel Core i5 3210M (2.50 GHz), 6 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000) I got the following (with the machine already under load due to my usual apps open):
mame64 mario -bench 90 (average of 3 trials): MAME 0.122 (64-bit) (samples): 2302.55% MAME 0.181 (64-bit) (discrete): 550.10% MAME 0.182 (64-bit) (netlist): 280.44%
Don't get us wrong, it appears to be a big performance hit, but you can get framerates hugely higher than that with a decent desktop (see John_IV's 0.180 benches: http://mameui.info/Bench.htm), and we're still talking greater than 60fps on basically most average consumer desktops/laptops made in the last five years at least.
Also, not saying couriersud can't eke out more speed from his netlist system yet. Every time I think he's done getting performance improvements, he goes and finds some more fps.
