Guys, how do you run extremely old and prehistroic versions in Windows 7?

Hi. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to run very old and ancient versions of MAME in Windows 7 64bit? I am trying to run MAME 0.36b11, and it's, not to my surprise, giving me a windows compatibility error. I even enabled "run in Windows 98" and "XP" compatibility modes, and still nothing. It's the command line version and I'm using the latest Emu Loader. Is there a work around for this?
