If you presume to have all the romsets for all parents and clones, would using the "All" do the same thing for you? It will list all possible clones in case you wish to run those and since they are in your path already, they will load even if not initially detected on startup. All the internal UI does is blindly look for a folder/compressed folder with the machine short name to fill out its available list. It doesn't do any deep auditing. You may also see if toggling the option "Configure Options -> Miscellaneous Options -> Hide romless machine from available list" to OFF will improve your Available list.
